Status : Online | Very cool...I am somewhat excited for this game...though I must admit (and this may not be the right thread for this post), I felt very let down by the storyline in the original Syberia...especially the ending.
****SPOILER ALERT**** ********************
I mean, at the end, she walks out the door and seems to recognize Hans on sight. Now, maybe I skipped something, but I never saw any pictures of a grown up Hans. Nor did anybody tell me he was sitting outside (I was told I should go check the delivery plane, but nobody told me Hans was there). Then, the conversation is rather vague especially concerning the fact that Kate needs to get back to the States...she's told she should hop the plane and it is taken as a matter of fact that the plane MUST be going to NYC. Where did that info come from? Then comes the shocker of shockers...she runs after Hans and hops on the train. Now I agree, this leaves it wide open for an easy sequel...but it felt totally contrived to me. Yes, we are constantly told that Kate is "changing" while on this case, but I never truly felt she was the type who would suddenly throw her entire life away after this "fools errand." She was growing intrigued with Hans and the automotans, but she still had a job to do and while I figured she'd break up with her fiance and she might even quit her job, the act of suddenly hopping on a train to Siberia just felt totally unrealistic.
****************** ***END SPOILER****
Anyway, I'm off my soapbox now and ready for more Syberia 2 news...the initial concept was interesting and while gameplay was slow at times...it was still a fairly decent story and a fun adventure game.

Well, just like the player she wants to know how the adventure continues, I think that's one of the few "realistic" parts in the game.
And what "life" does she throw away anyway? The relationship with her fiancé and a job at an office where the boss treats her like sh*t and doesn't in the least appreciate her capabilities?
Even if Kate does return to NYC later in the story, she can easily find a better life than the one she had before, because now she has the power to break away - she didn't have that power before. The plane is more of a symbol for Kate gaining that power than a story device. At least that's the way I see it.

| Deleted User | The original Syberia is one of my top five games. A year with a new Syberia and a new The Longest Journey will be sheer gaming bliss. I am counting the minutes.
Oh yes, a few more things. Kate's boss did treat her like s++t, her boyfriend was a complete self centered jerk, her idiot girlfriend only lived to shop and her mother, well, the words fail me. In Kate's position I would leave for Syberia too.

Me too. (Of course, a dial-up connection may have a minor influence on my decision.)
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!!!

Status : Online | I totally agree that she really isn't throwing away anything worthwhile by abandoning her old life. It just seems WAY extreme even based on her behavior and curiousity up to this point...not totally believable in my book.
Granted, I AM still very excited for this sequel and I will definitely play it through. My only hope is that her character development seems a bit more complete.
Honestly, my only complaints with the initial game were the situation outlined in my spoiler (her first encounter with H.) and the fact that her character didn't seem to have developed to a point where her final action in the game seemed logical. I do admit that creating that kind of cohesiveness in a story and pleasing everyone is difficult...and hey, since those are my ONLY complaints, you should be happy, right?

Syberia was one of the best adventures ever and without a doubt the best in the last couple of years. Stunning graphics, good music, extremely high quality cut-scenes and a good story.
For me, Syberia 2 is one of the most anticapted adventures ever!
