Status : Offline | I must say I rather liked them. BS1 and BS2 are the ones I played.  espite the negative critiques of BS2 I enjoyed that as much as I did the first one. I can see where the criticisms come from in terms of linearity, slightly easier puzzles, shorter game, and such (maybe because I wasn't able to ask EVERYONE about EVERY inventory object I owned-that took time), but when I finished that didn't seem to matter to me. Maybe because I was just enjoying myself too much.
I laughed, I died (well, George and Nico did sometimes), I refreshed my knowledge of the Knights Templar (BS1), *slight puzzle spoiler* I got experience with a crate-pushing puzzle (BS2) *end spoiler* and I enjoyed the fact that I was able to get a detailed description of almost everything I looked at. You know what else I liked? I clicked on the program icon and was presented with the screen to load my saved games. None of this fancy intro stuff where about three company logos flash before my eyes. I had a my game going in about three seconds.
Since people fussed so much about the goat in BS1, I feel I must address it. After I got past it, I thought it was going to be more complicated. No, the issue was a matter of time. The puzzle itself was pretty easy. But it's not like gamers haven't encountered timed puzzles before. Hmmm. But after hearing all those complaints I didn't put much effort into trying to solve it. A few clicks here, try some inventory items there, and I was giving up and online searching for a hint.
So what now? I've played the first two games ... one right after the other.  As soon as I saw the ending for BS1, I installed and started up BS2.) But now I find myself without BS3. There are a few reasons. First, I figured it was best to play the first two games before rushing out to buy the third. Second, the neglected homework has magically piled up and it must be completed this week. Third, can I make the switch from 2D to 3D? Fourth and finally, there's this little thingamabob called StarForce that people keep complaining about and has me all worried. But I have this compulsive need to play sequels, especially ones that everyone seems to like, so I'm tempted to throw the StarForce mess aside, say "the heck with it" and buy it anyway.
Thoughts?

I dont know if BS3 uses the Starforce copy protection, but I know there is a solution for that, a "starforce uninstaller" or something. Anyone got a link for that?
Susan, you dont know if you will like BS3? I heard it is an easy game, and the controls might be confusing at times (similar to MI4 and GF). Despite these minor flaws, it looks very interesting, too bad there isnt a demo available for you to try...or is it?

For me, having played the first two games added a lot to the third and made the average puzzles tolerable. Being able to see George and Nico again was great. And you've got a good story with the kind of entertaining dialogue one expects in a Broken Sword game. It's got some flaws, but most of those can be chalked up to this being the first 3D Broken Sword game and the kind of teething problems that come with that. So I'd recommend you give it a try!*
*While advocating Broken Sword 3 as an entertaining game, Andromus makes no guarantees regarding the safety of the Starforce program. Andromus did experience a recurring USB driver lockup while playing Black Mirror that disappeared after he uninstalled the game, which also uses the accursed Starforce software. So install at your own risk, and all that sort of thing!

Give me the good old days when you could call the support line and say: This thing plays like crap, causes havoc, I want my money back and they let you return the game.
Kind of how I felt the second day into Journey to the Center of the Earth right after I finished it.

I guess playing them in the right order would be preferable.
I think I'll order BS1 soon.

As far as StarForce, there's a 6-page thread here in the Hot Spot, which includes a link to sfclean.exe. But I like to replay my games. So what am I supposed to do? Install BS3, play it, uninstall it, run sfclean, then do it all again the next time I want to play the game?
Despite all that, I'll get BS3. Maybe even this weekend. I just wanted to start a discussion.

It stays true to the series' spirit and feels like part of a larger whole rather than a forced sequel. There are many funny references to the previous games in it and you'll see locations from BS1 in 3D. Be sure to tell us about your experiences!

And enough people complained in one of my classes today about the 7-page, single spaced case analysis that was due Thursday, so it's now due next Tuesday. Meaning, instead of devoting my entire evening to working on it tomorrow, I'll have some extra time. So I can buy BS3 on my way home!
But just to be sure, I'm downloading the demo as I type.
