Bob Mandel at the Adrenaline Vault has a excellent article that describes how adventure and FPS games have slowly incorporated signture characteristics of each other, in each other. This is exactly what Ray Ivey has been saying for years here at JA! It is definately worth a read so head over right now to...http://www.avault.com/articles/getarticle.asp?name=convergence

From the article:

One such area deals with the issue of linearity. Adventure game developers used to pride themselves on the nonlinear nature of their offerings, with the ability to freely explore many different environments being one of the genre's big attractions. First-person shooters, on the other hand, used to force players to move forward in a lockstep manner, often using tight corridors within closed environments as a mechanism for enforcing the sequential nature of the gameplay.

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

This certainly isnt the information that I have been hearing about all this time.
