After Raul dies and Victoria saves Darrel from suffocation, there is a point in the game where you have to put the blood on the rose on the trea cart in the dining room. Two walkthroughs I have state this should happen after a cut scene with the maid. The maid never enters which acts as a trigger to progress in the game. The UHS hint system states there is a bug here. I tried walking in and out through all of the doors leading to the dining room with no success. I am tired of walking through doors and have been stuck here for the last three months. Any help would be appreciated or maybe a saved game after this point. The user interface is very awkward and the voice acting is horrible but the story line is extremely good. But I still want to finish the game >

I finished The Watchmaker early last year sometime, but I do remember having your particular problem (getting the maid to appear).  Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly how I solved it.

I see you have checked the UHS Hint File.  You might try contacting the author of the file directly.

I wrote a Review on MobyGames and just re-read it.  Could your problem be related to performance? Have you tried reducing the resolution to 640x480?

I also wrote "I experienced a few crashes and speech stutters, even after installing the sound files to my hard drive (another external option) and reducing the resolution to minimum. Some of this was helped by making sure all running programs were disabled or closed before starting the game, but not all. "

I wish I could help more!  :'(

P.S.  Here are the 3 walkthroughs I found in case you haven't seen one of them:

I think there might be a bug in the game at that point.  I played it the first time and it went right through that part but I replayed it a little later and it stuck right there this time.  One thing I noticed was the game time text was missing when it got stuck  If your game time text still apears when go from room to room you should be ok and it could be something you missed.

I liked it a lot. Mostly because I thought the story was cool. You play a lawer and a phycic investigator and you have to use the charator that think is best for what you hope to learn from the people you talk too. The castle you are in is really cool and there are lots of rooms to go in and investigate. You can also walk all the way around it in the gardens. They put a lot of work into it and all in all did a great job on it.  If you are looking for perfect voice acting and a perfect interface then you might not like it.  I thought is was better than a lot of other newer games I have gotten this year and you can play it without using a walkthrough as there are plenty of hints around. That part alone is a good point for me.  When I have to spend days trying to figure out what to do next it ruins the story for me and that is the main reason I play adventure games.  The Watchmaker is basicly a detective game and I like them because I find they are more logical and don't have as many puzzles that you need a walkthrough to figure out.

Sorry, that was bad tempered of me.

I didn`t like the characters or speech. And I really can`t resolve this timed bit.
But  others did like it so try it.Maybe read one or two reviews.

That part was quite easy. Your problem was because of the bad interface.   You have to first go one step and stand just behind the piller to watch him turn his head then click on the doorway. Don't try to walk to the door or she will walk right out in plain view and get shot.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I am going to reload the game and start again from the beginning. I am not a quitter
. I reformatted my hard drive because of a virus and replaced my CD rom drive . I don't believe these were the problems with the game. Will make posts as the game progresses and of any solutions I find.
