Here are a bunch of hard(ish) questions for you Monkeyholics:

1. Which one of Guybrush's famous quotes is a catch-up phrase  from the '60s spy-spoof, Get Smart?

2. Monkey Island 1 has two different endings. Which action determines which ending you will see?

3. How can you kill Guybrush in MI1?

4. One which island can you buy a Presley collectors plate?

5. One of the Monkey Island games has a dead end, after which you have no chance but to restart, but you have to work hard to make it happen! Which one (and what)?

6. Where can you see a Moby Dick poster?

7. In Monkey Island 3, when LeChuck asks Guybrush what he thinks the secret of the MI is, one of the available replies is "That the girl is her daughter AND her sister?". Which movie does it remind you of?

8. In MI3, when you talk to Haggis, he can say something about a dead man's chest, sunken to the bottom of a pit. One of Guybrush's suggestions is to fill the chest with air and fill the hole with water. Which adventure game does it remind you of?

9. In MI3, when Guybrush sticks his arm through the crack in the crypt he says "Aah! My arm is stuck! My circulation has been cut off! You'll have to cut off my arm!". Which LucasArts adventure game does it remind you of?

10. In EMI, the music in Lua Bar was taken from an old LucasArts adventure game. Which one?

3. Guybrush mentions that he can stay underwater for 10 minutes (or was it 9?). If you wait that long he will drown. Nice easteregg.
Didn't the same work in MI4??

4. Booty Island. I wasn't sure, but tried to derive it from my memory. On Booty Island you can participate in a treasure dive and there's this shop which sells very special souvenirs. You can make booty. Maybe that's why it's called Booty Island. Wild argumentation on my side.

7. Chinatown? Sorry for spoilers.

:-/Well, I once tried to see if there were a dead end on the Monkey Island games, but never really found it. I had two guesses on what actions would cause a dead end. :-/
First, (and someone already posted this), on Monkey 1 if you use all your money in the grog vending machine at Stans.
Second, on Monkey 2, loosing all your money betting at the spinning wheel.
I wonder if any of these works... ???

I'm itching to know the answer to question 2...
It's not one of the choices of things to say to Gov Marley at the very end, is it?

8/10 so far, well done people.
Here are the ones you got right:

2*. There are actually 2 endings in MI1. There is not a significant difference, but there is a slight change.

When you are using the catapult on Monkey Island to shoot the banana tree, you can also hit your ship and sink it! If you do that you obviously can't get back to Melee Island using that. Instead Herman will help you by giving you a lifeboat he has been having all those years..........and after the credits you'll see Meethook, Carla, and Otis locked up in the cannibal hut. If you don't sink your ship, you will sail back with Carla, Meathook, and Otis.

3*. When Fester Shinetop throws you in the water, just stay there for 10 minutes. Remember Guybrush can "only" hold his breath for 10 minutes! He will then become very blue and eventually green. You have to restart or load a savegame after this.

4*. In the antique shop on Booty Island you can buy a collectors plate with Elvis Presley's picture on it

5*. Put all your money in the grog machine

6*. In the antique store on Booty Island is a poster with the "Great White Whale", who's never been caught. The Shop keeper doesn't know its name but it could very well be Moby Dick.

7*. This is from the movie "Chinatown" with Jack Nicholson, where he is a detective protecting a mother and daughter from her grandfather, only to uncover a terrible incestuous affair where the grandfather is actually the daughter's father, therefore making the mother her daughter's sister as well.

8*. Myst

9*. Dig

Can't solve any of the missing ones, but I'll put a new one:

11. Why is Guybrush called Guybrush? There is a story behind the name. Quite funny.

Oh yes, is that story about Paintbrush Deluxe? I think it has something to do with the type of brush they were using...

Subzero is right, and so is Rael. The Secret of Monkey Island was designed entirely on Deluxe Paint, an Amiga program in which a character you can copy & paste is called a guy/girlbrush.

Deluxe Paint

Yes, right! Not "Paintbrush Deluxe"... not even a deluxe version can save that program

Yup, perfectly correct. I couldn't even remember the name of the designing program. More than correct then.

And why Threepwood?
I forgot it if there ever was a special reason.
Maybe you know...

The answer to the final question: The music in the Lua Bar is taken from "Sam & Max" when they are at the Bigfoot party.

Maybe you know...

I think all the employees of LucasArts were encouraged to send in suggestions for a name, and the designers decided on Threepwood. I don't think there was a special meaning behind the name, it just sounds cool.
Feel free to ignore this post.
