Status : Online | I uninstalled Legend (Part 1) before installing Secrets of Alamut (Part 2). No problems with install of Part 2 and the game ran just fine. But once the intro movie was over and the game began I was not able to save. The main menu and save functions are exactly the same as Part 1, however, when I right click to access the main menu icon and then click on the icon nothing happens. The main menu doesn’t load and I don’t leave the game.
I tried running both 24 and 16 bit versions. I restarted the game several times. At no point was I able to get the save screen to come up. I let myself die (this is very easy early on) and got the usual book/narration “you died” cutscene and it then brought me to the save (main) menu but I still couldn’t save once there or “continue.” At this point I am able to quit or start another game and even change the preferences. But no saving allowed apparently.
So then I stopped the game and in windows explorer took a look at my program files. I saw that some debris from Part 1 wasn’t wiped out by the uninstall so I manually deleted the Part 1 folder. Loaded the game back up and STILL no save screen will come up. I don’t get a crash or sent to my desktop. I just stay right in the game.
I ended up uninstalling Part 2 and will reinstall tonight (I’m at work now) and see if happens again. Also, the game manual in Acrobat on the cd won’t open. I get a message that there is no “pdf” extension. This happens if I try to read the version installed on my harddrive and also when I try to open the version on the game cd. Could I have a corrupted disk? There are no scratches, it’s a new game. It installed perfectly and runs fine except I can’t access the save/main menu screen during gameplay. I even did a search on this forum to see if anyone else has had a prob with this and no luck there.
I checked the Dreamcatcher website, and they only had a few tech probs/solves listed, none of which applies to my problem. I also went to Arxel Tribe’s website, and they don’t have any tech support at all for this game. If when I reinstall tonight this continues to happen I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?
I’d also like to reiterate that Part 1 installed and ran just fine. And in Part 2 the game runs beautifully except for the above mentioned problem. The printed manual that comes with the game also gave no clues. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you!
