Status : Offline | Just picked up a Playstation. Yeah, I know I'm behind the times, but there's enough playability in the Final Fantasy series to keep me going for a long time.
Based on game selection, I'd probably go with a PS2 for my next choice of console gaming.

On the whole i am satisfied with the games available for all 3 consoles. My main hobby is gaming and like to play many types of genre, although i do tend spend the most time playing adventures on my pc.
I think all 3 consoles have a strong lineup for the future. Triple A titles will be available for all 3, such as Splinter Cell, Steel Battalion on Xbox,  MC2, WE6FE, Clock Tower 3, on PS2 and finally Metroid Prime, Legend Of Zelda and the Resident Evil series on Gamecube.
I suppose as this is an adventure gaming forum i should try and answer the question from an adventure gamers outlook.
Would i buy a nextgen console if the only genre i liked were adventure games? Probably no. Although it does depend on what a certain person classes as an adventure game. As i said earlier in this post my favourite genre is still adventure games and i do get a lot of enjoyment from games like Resident Evil, Ico, Silent Hill and Eternal Darkness. Not adventures in the traditional sense but nonetheless very enjoyable.
There are decent adventure games on all formats though. One's that spring to mind are Shemmue II for Xbox, Shadow Of Destiny on the PS2. Also you might like to know that Syberia is being released on PS2 in the UK. I believe its out before the end of the year.

Got a PS2 and love it. Has a great selection of games (Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, GTA) and also plays my DVD's.
Also have a GameBoy Advance, bought it for Advance Wars. But apart from that and Golden Sun, I still have to see a good set of games for this platform. A bit disappointing.

Am I satisfied with the selection of games available? Yes, tho' I find it frustrating when one game comes out for all the platforms (console). I never know which one to get. <The sound of the world's smallest violin playing is heard in the background....>

Generally when a game is released for all the consoles i go with the Xbox version. The Xbox has a hard-drive built-in so loading times are a lot quicker. Apart from that there is no real difference in multi-format games, although Xbox games tend to look the best graphically.

And I must say that there are the best adventures on them:
Silent Hill 1 and 2. The best horror survival games on any console or PC Parisite Eve 1 and 2: the second best. Resident Evil 1,2,3 en Veronica: the third best
Eco
Shadow of memories
Tomb Raider series
Metal gear solid series
Final Fantasy series.
I am not starting a flamewar so please correct me if I'm wrong with my list.
Also: it's very easy to play adventures on consoles. No intallation needed, sit back with your joypad in your hand and go!

| Deleted User | Some of you have a wild collection of consoles. Impressive.
I have a PlayStation that my son gave to me. I just started Silent Hill. This is my first adventure into console gaming. I am finding the controller a bit difficult to become accustomed to. But I am giving it an honest try.
I am impressed with the graphic art in the game but the character movements are rough in my opinion. However, I realize that some of that is me on a learning curve.
Overall, I find it easier to do the point and click computer game thing when I want to pick up an object. From my brief experience with SH I have to move to just the right locatin to obtain an inventory item. And so far, figuring out how to use them is difficult. I used up a life elixer and didn't even need it. :-/
I also have a GBC that I use when we are traveling. I am terrible in the car. Sort of like a child - are we there yet? I am nearly hopeless in maneuveing my hero and I stay lost most of the time. My one game for the GBC is Quest: Brian's Journey. It is rather dull but since I only use it on long trips I forget just how bad it really isfrom one trip to the next. At the rate I am going I will probably never finish it and never need to buy another.
My grandsons are wild men on their GameBoys and on the PS2 (and the computer too). There is a big difference in the hand/eye coordination and reaction time between this older adult and all of the younger generations. The grandsons are 6,9,12. They love the maniac and fast driving games for the PS2. The more that they spin out or wreck the more they love it. They also like the super hero titles. I watch them play and it makes my head spin. They are so quick. I am trying to figure out what to do and they are already 5 minutes ahead of me.

Yeah, i got one of the wooden Atari 2600's in my attic. First console i ever owned. My Uncle gave it to me when i was 6 or 7.

I have fond memories of the Amiga. Playing Monkey Island and having to keep changing the 7 or 8 (or was it more) diskettes the game came on.

Dear Harriet,
You lucky grandma,
Tell everybody you love them, but to leave the house for the next few hours........ lock the door, dimm the lights, sit in a very, very comfortable chair, put silent hill1 on the ps1, switch on your tv set, sound level as full as possible.......
Walk through that town, visit that school, listen to the that noise on your radio.......
Someone (-thing?) is comming.......
Silent Hill is one of the best surviving horror games, without a doubt. Only one game is better: Silent Hill 2. Your alone, really alone. And it's not save out there............Trust me on this one.
Sir Funkenstein.
P.s. do you have a picture of the whole family?

You've got me started now - I'm having a nostalgia attack...

Only one game is better: Silent Hill 2 personally i found SH1 way better than SH2... it was more "scary", a lot longer and a bit harder (i played SH2 on Hard puzzles/Easy Arcade)... SH2 was great, but it can't be compaired to SH1 imo
as for the Amigas... still: A500, A1200, A1000 (i think i wrote this on another thread but i never miss a chance to brag about them! and i always use the cool face next to A1000 too!)... oh and i had a scsi hd on my A500 too... no hd swapping for me when MI2 was out
