Status : Online | I'm new to this forum, but have spent some time on some other adventure gaming sites, and I am sad to say that the same feelings of abandonment are being felt all over.
One of the games that got me hooked on adventure gaming was Shivers. To this day I'm still looking for a game that I think measures up to that one. Sometimes I feel like a heroin addict looking to re-live that first 'high' ) I guess that's why I'm on this site is that I want to know if someone has any suggestions???

If the new game is not succesful, Sierra will drop Space Quest into the bottomless chasm of oblivion and makes a promise never to use the series again.
If it DOES turn out as a succes, Sierra will simply continue turning their adventure-classics into genres where they don't belong.
I'm not so sure if flooding Sierra with mail will turn out succesful. In big companies like Sierra, it's usually some underpaid customer service representative who gets to do the overwork of sending Sierra's default reply back to all those people who contact them.
The best thing to do here might be to support the fanbase and their projects. (like the unofficial SQ7-project in this case)

Action gamers will be unhappy because there won't be enough action and adventure gamers will be unhappy because there will be too much action? i really don't understand how come companies don't realise that... that's 100% true... and my hope is they all flop like no tomorrow so they might open their eyes that way... but unfort they're gonna sell, even due to their names only
And even if it's "100% adventure", if it turns out to be as uninspired as MI4, that won't be of much help either also very true
You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

But the adventure fan will buy MI5, or BS4, or KQ9 even if they are crap just in order to get their favourite series.... I think we should become more picky...

Status : Online | It's not that easy. As I mentioned before, people are in a lose-lose situation. If they DON'T buy the game, their favourite series will simply be discontinued.
If LA would created a MI-game that would defile all the principles fans would consider true and holy, people might buy the game anyway to sustain the series and hope the angry mail they sent to LA is actually paid attention to. Boycotting MI5 could very well mean that the chance of a future MI6 ever seeing the light of day would be reduced to zero.
It's the number 1 rule of the commercial world: if a sequel is a succes, repeat and create another sequel. If a sequel isn't a succes, ditch the whole thing.

| Deleted User | It's a problem when the guys in charge get too far away from the art they are controlling and only starts thinking about the money. Other media seems to go the same way. Here's one example:
Here in Sweden we didn't use to have commercial radio channels until a couple of years ago when they changed the laws. The politicians said that this would broaden the diversity of the material for the listeners. Well, it kind of did... for about a year. Then all the niche channels went bankrupt and we were left with the ones that were targeted at the most profitable individual in the consumer market: The 30 year old single woman with a career. These channels more or less do nothing but churn out the ten current top-selling singles in random order and mix it with commercials. I cannot stand listening to the crap!

Status : Offline | I have some news about this. I was just fooling around in Escape Factory homepage, the apparent SQ7 developers. It turns out that they worked with Valve (Half Life makers) designing a demo to showcase their talents and Valve's technology. This technology is (surprise here) a 3D engine of course. Now, could it be that Sierra asked them to do this small project to "test" them for a full blown game?
Another thing, they signed in a "competitive" XBox program. It seems that SQ7 could be ported to this system. While there has been great adventures games in consoles, none of them was a 100% pure adventure. Now, this would just confirm that the next SQ instalment will not be a graphic adventure.
All of this might mean something or not. I know it's way too early to tell. But these are no good signs at all.

I want to see Gabriel Knight and other adventure game sequels as adventures. Sierra seems to have no idea what the public really wants if they really go through with this.

Status : Online | :-/ As a long time Adventure Gamer, I find this news disappointing to say the least. I've always loved Sierra's adventure games, and still have every one of them. I've been quite an optimist over the past couple of years, believing they would see the light, and produce more, if not revive the wonderful, and more than adequate characters they already have on the shelf.
Sure, they are out to make money, but a smart business knows when to lose a little to gain a lot.

Ok then we take a succesful adventure series, make it into action and so we take the 200,000 adventure gamers that would buy it cause they are going to buy it anyway and some more action players because they are going to be action games.
Wow, that is a very smart assumption. I never thought of it this way.

I would never ever do it. What's the point in keeping a series alive which isn't ever going to produce a single game of your favorite genre? We have to face it. The big adventure companies are dead. They jump on the action-wagon. Personally I think action games will be sold out very soon, too. They are just a little bit too slow in trend-hopping...

Just for the record, I would refuse to buy a Gabriel Knight that was action based. As for King's Quest... well... they already did that. Luckily the characters and feel of the game weren't recaptured, so it didn't seem like part of the series, but it would be awful if they tried to re-embody the aura of KQ in an action game. =/
