Well, it will not be long now. I want to know if Kate goes back to her man. Well, he try to get her back? Will Kate's best friend who stole him, do the right thing and send him back to Kate? I've been waiting months to find out. I also want to know if Kate's mother is going to marry that retired singer, or keep living in sin. She is setting a bad example for children who play this game.(grin)

Do you want Kate to forgive her man and go back to him?
(Do you care?)

You've reduced Syberia to a soap opera in those few sentences.

So the girls could just keep passing him back and forth? lol     Why bother?  Kates 'best' friend can have him.

She'd be smart to stay single for tax purposes.  :

If you mean Kate she can do better than Dan.If you mean her mother she probably makes a better Mistress.

Maybe I just don't have a soap opera mindset, but I thought that this plot line was sort of already resolved. I mean, Dan ran off with Kate's friend, Kate forgave said friend, and, really, Kate was sort of indifferent to the entire situation the whole time as far as I could tell. By the time this plot line came up, I think Kate had already left her old life behind anyway. I don't think she is going back to her crappy job or her jerk boyfriend. She is escaping the mundane everyday world for a career in mammoth ranching for fun and profit.

EDIT: Oh, and I would image that Kate's mother will run off with the retired singer so that her chracter development mirrors Kate's development.

I think you are all wrong. The makers of the game will want to keep that phone gig going in the game, and they will use the same characters. Kates mother will call and tell her about the problems she is having with her retired singer. Kates best friend will call to talk about her relationship with Dan and how they are getting married. Dan will cheat on his wife to be, call Kate, and try to get Kate back. Kates boss will call and offer her a raise in salary if she will come back to work for the company.

The phone functions as a storytelling device, illustrating that Kate gradually loses everything that she would consider 'home', leaving her to either pick up the pieces of her shattered life, or move on as she does in the game.

Basically, her man was a lousy love-cheat and deserved to be swallowed by a rabid seal.

And it can only be a better game because of that. The phone conversations got on my nerves a few times in the first game. I wouldn't be surprised though to see Kate find new love in Syberia 2.

Well, personally, I liked the phone calls. This was one of the few games where I felt like I knew the character as a friend. The phone calls were a bit strange at first, but they sure helped make Kate into a real person for me. And the phone puzzles were fun also. It took me three days to think of calling Kate's mother to find the location of you-know-who. I was sure proud of myself for figuring that one out. I used to use cheat books, but now I slug it out until I solve the puzzle. It's too far inbetween these good advanture games to rush it. If it take a month or two, that's just more fun for me.

You're the man (or woman or thing)!!!

Well, the phone had to go in 2 btw. because Kate has lost *all* connections to the 'normal' world.

Hey, I think it's great to get involved in a story, no matter what part of the storyline
that's how a game gets a wider audience.  I think Kate will meet a new guy in Syberia 2, who knows but that's what I would assume.

whoa, someone, put "spoilers" in the subject line. You open up the thread and *bam*, there's major plot elements.

I really don't mind - I've already played the game - but there's still some lucky people out there that haven't.

Hello There!

Now you know that I had to hark about Kate Walker.  Just simply cannot help myself.

I just love her.   I mean the character made by Benoit Sokal.

In terms of the phone calls.  Yes, I loved them because they gave an insight into the character of Kate Walker.

Without having to have videos or cut scenes of her family, boss, and boyfriend, you got to feel out how she thought about her job, her life, and her relationships with the people in her life.

A cold mother that had no time for her, except to call her whenever she had the time, and Kate Walker's need for her mother's approval and "love", which was handed out to her by doses.

The overbearing boss who merely cares about Kate getting the job done, so that he can carry on the business at hand, regardless of any hardships or vicissitude's she may have to deal with in carrying out her responsabilities.

Her cad of a boyfriend, who only thought about himself, and her willingness to put up with his selfishness, and personal needs, regardless of Kate's own needs.

Yes, to me the phone gave a very intimate insight into her psyche.

She desperately needed her mother's love and affection, and her acceptance of the few and far
in-between contacts with her mother.

Her codependance on her boyfriend, where apparently she had been a doormat for his needs.

And her ambition to kiss the bosses ass just to get ahead.

How many of us have not done the same.

How many women are in a loveless relationship, that they maintain just for the sake of a little intimacy, and the need not to be alone.  Even if it is with a selfish man.

How many women carry on relationships with a mother, at arms length and are willing not to make mother realize that at once they are grown up and should be treated as adults, and on the other hand make mother realize that they need more than a phonecall in between appointments with a hair dresser.
Just because it might upset mother to do.

The phone and the phonecalls received gave me a look inside how she felt, and how she carried on her life.

It also enabled me to see her development from a mousy doormat into the beginnings of an assertive and confident woman.

I see the phone as the medium to enable me to gauge her progress as a "real" human being.

That the makers of the game are no longer going to put in the phone is understandable.

She has by virtue of the problems she has faced, dealt with and solved, along with the decision to follow Hans in search of the mammoths, blossomed into a self-assured, determined, and wonderfully reliant woman.

We do not need to hear the family, friends or job phonecalls any longer to know what type of a person she is or become.

We have had a front row seat into her transformation into a "real" person.

She is just beautiful to behold, admire, and appreciate.  Her character development by Benoit Sokal has in my opinion being nothing less than brilliant.

It's so hard not to like a man who talks so admiringly of a woman.

This game certainly did cast its magic over a lot of people.

I think Sharon A. Mann did i great work with the voice part. All those emotions and she just has a voice i really like listening to - she'd be great for telling bed time stories
. Sharon is also a voice of Carla Valenti in Fahrenheit. Kate and Carla do sound similar, i'd noticed that even before i saw Sharon talks for both of them (ok that sounds weird
)

That’s good to know! I’m playing Indigo Prophecy and didn’t know Carla’s voice is also Kate’s.

Now back to Kate and her cellphone. Maybe she threw it away when she got her bill for roaming charges. :

Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth...glad to see someone feels the same way about Kate.
Maybe now, Caroline, you'll understand why I got so offended at your weird post, where you basically sexed up a really cool person unnecessarily...a fake person, but a wonderful character none the less. One of the reasons I like Syberia is for the fact that you get to play as a woman...and as people, women are really awesome. I don't like to hear them objectified in weird posts like that.

Your reaction to my little playful fun has given me lots of laughs.  How would you have reacted if I'd mentioned that Kate's rumbly tummy kept her awake all night farting and belching because she hadn't eaten and had the most crippling wind?

Then as a result of running around in the snow she got a cold and started picking her nose when no one was watching....   [smiley=rofl.gif]

It's not blasphemy you know, to extrapolate a character from a story into a life of normal activity.  And btw, it's highly unlikely that Kate is a virgin so there's really no need to treat her as one.  Any woman who dresses in pants that tight probably has to lie on the floor to zip them shut.  She knows what her bum looks like in them, that's why she bought them a size two small, let me tell you.

So nice to see dear Anne's quick wit in this thread.

That depends on how much you care for her.  If you are crazy about her, even the most devastating and pestilent wind smells to you like Channel No. 5

That's okay, this is real life couple relations.  We'll take care of her nose cleaning together in the shower. [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif]

That is definitively to be expected.  A woman as beautiful as Kate Walker has every right to display her charms to appreciative admirers.  Besides, as Eleanor Parker said to Charlton Heston in the movie The Naked Jungle.    "A piano sounds better when it is played often" ....so it is with a woman....... You did more then just "extrapolate a character from a story into a life of normal activity," yet you continue you argue as if you didn't. I will no longer discuss this topic; I only ask that you refrain from making such "humorous" erotic posts about any character again. Not only do I find that type of "humor" offensive, but I didn't appreciate hearing it about a character I admire. I simply ask that you would kindly not write posts like that anymore.
