Status : Offline | Ray McCoy is determined to impress his superiors at LPD and show he is good enough to join the elite Blade Runner corps, those whose job is to "retire" the Replicants.
The Reps are androids and only look human. Used for labour on Mars, they have infiltrated Earth and have the temerity to do ordinary jobs just as if they were human. Little wonder they are retired with extreme prejudice by the Blade Runners.
Blade Runner is based on the 1982 film by Ridley Scott and reatins much of the cyberpunk feel of the original film. Soaring highrises, dingy hotels, high tech labs are all in the game.
Ray learns that a renegade group of replicants have hijacked a spacecraft and landed on Earth, vowing revenge on their creators, Tyrell Corporation and searching for a way to extend their artificially created lifetime of four years.
All the controls in the game are handled using the mouse and the interface is easy to learn. You control Ray as he searches for clues to the identity of attackers of scientists and corporate executives.
Ray has a personal assistance device called Kia who keeps tracks of interviews, suspect's photographs and clues that Ray discovers. There is a nice zoom feature that you use to identify hidden features in photographs which really puts you in the shoes of a detective.
Also nice is an interrogation device which detects if the subject is human or a replicant. After Ray repeatedly declines offers to be tested on his own machine, you begin to wonder if Ray is really who he says he is.
The graphics are excellent, the streets are appropriately rain slicked and gloomy in the back alleys, or gaudy and garish in Chinatown. The locations are limited, however. There is not the fluid 360 degree go anywhere panorama we are used to seeing in modern games.
The other characters are equally appealing, ranging from sleazy corrupt police lieutenants to an innocent child who may or may not be a rep. this character, voiced by Sean Young, just as in the movie, causes Ray to rethink his attitude to replicants. This brings a crisis point to the game as he now becomes hunted and is thought to be a Replicant, with the result of every police officer in the district trying to "retire" him.
There are four different endings you can get, depending on decisions you make toward the end of the game. Blade Runner is not a game for anybody who hates ambigous endings.
Overall, Blade runner is an excellent adventure game, highly atmospheric, logically constructed and has a satisfying storyline. Highly recommended.

I thought that this adventure had a very abrupt ending. I wasn't to happy with that. I didn't know that it has 3 more endings....... and I lost all my save games.
Nice review!

Status : Online | An excellent game (and I didn't think the action scenes were much of a problem - especially on easier skill settings with an infinite amount of ammo). Only things that bugged me were the loading times and jerky cutscenes (last time I played it my PC was less than the recommended specs) and the main character sprites were a bit blocky.
Hmm...come to think of It I only ever saw 2 of the 4 endings. Perhaps it's time to load it up and see if it'll still run....

| Deleted User | Never saw the movie but I got annoyed with the so-called replicants ...... the game is here IF I get so bored.
I just could NOT get into the game ....... guess it doesn't appeal to females huh?
Also have a game called "Wheel of Time" supposed to be adventure, which the same friend gave me. He needs his head read ...... he introduced me to KQ, PQ, SQ ..... but hasn't caught on that ADVENTURE isn't just a cheap game he sees at the Fair LOL He did give me Gabriel Knight 3 ...... for which I will be forever grateful though LOL

Its not the winning the losing or the taking part that counts. Its the way you cheat.
