Gee, what a great game, pity I did have to get 2 or 3 hints though.

Loved the ending - one of the few endings that hasn't been a disappointment and leaves a "warm, fuzzy" sort of feeling.  Now it's definitely gone to the top of my favourites list along with the GK, Tex Murphy and Discworld games.

It really is a game worth persevering with if you find the controls difficult at first, once you get the hang of it, it's just as easy as any "mouse-type" game, so if you haven't tried it, do give it a go!

What's happened to the smileys? They aren't working for me just now!

Glad you enjoyed it! It too was a high point in my gaming years, if not the highest.

I've never understood why people had troubles with the controls though. They seemed quite intuitive from my point of view. Certainly better than years ago when you had to navigate Larry around the blurry, pixelated environs of NonToonyt Island.

Have you accidentally ticked the 'no smileys' box?

Glad you enjoyed it so much Narji.  Persevering with those controls does payoff!

What was your favorite part?  I really enjoyed the nightlub with Glottis at the piano in the required noir "Casablanca" segment.  Also loved that part of Discworld Noir.

Still adventuring after all these years!

Patiently awaiting The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, and Bracken Tor...

... and Asylum if it's not tooooo scary...

Grim Fandango holds a very high place in my personal rankings of favourite adventure games.

The controls aren't the best, but you forget about them once you get pulled in the fantastic atmosphere of the game.

Ksandra,
No I hadn't ticked the "no smilies" box and they are still not working this morning either.

Adventuredog,
Gosh it's hard to say what was the high point in the game for me, but maybe the ending because I'm nearly always disappointed with endings in games, no matter how good the actual game was.

bob_the_builder keeps nagging that i should pick this up... in fact, a few weeks back i almost had it... for 3 dollars even.

that was, until i looked on the spine of the case and found out it was the demo of grim fandango. talk about raising my expectations and shortly there-after, killing them.

did lucasarts come out with a 'greatest hits' featuring grim fandango? they want 15.00 bucks just for 'grim fandango' alone... i know the game is great, but i think that's a bit pricy for an older game on it's own.

I wouldn't say they were 'intuitive' but once I got into it, it was like ice-skating, you never forget once you've learnt it, no matter how long it has been.

Buy it. The game really doesn't feel dated. This is mostly in part because the designers decided to be artistic with the graphics rather than just make the art as realistic as possible. "New" graphics are only new for a couple months. Art is timeless.

If you get it... excuse me... When you get it, make sure you download the patch and you copy the game files into your game directory (it explains how in the manual) so you don't need to wait for screens to load.

I couldn't agree more!

Art is indeed timeless, especially when it's hand-drawn. The graphics of Monkey Island 2 for example are still very attractive, IMHO, even though it's in 320x200 pixels and 256 colours.

There is a WIN 95, 98 jewel box at amazon for $9.95.  Free shipping if you choose something else to make the order over $25.  I definitely think it is worth getting oswald!

Yep, You're right  Jo/Narji! Grim Fandango was really

a fun romp for me also, and it ranks in my Top 10.

I replayed it this summer.

And to think ... I almost got it off Ebay & would have paid for S&H.

Anyway, yeah, if it's at the store it'd be in the jewelcases section.  You might have to look for it.  There was like 1 copy in stock when I got it.   :-/

You didn't recognize that shady looking character suddenly appearing out of that water pool when you were trying to find a solution to Glottis' problem? (Trying not to post a spoiler)
