Loved 7th Guest when it first came out and actually was one of the ones I played through without having access to the Internet. Still there was that book that you could use to solve a puzzle and I remember I did use that just once for the spider on the door puzzle. My husband tried to solve it as well as myself and my daughter and none of us could get it. Later on when we were eventually on the net I did have a look to see how it was supposed to be solved and I could swear we had done it the correct way at least once. Boy did I get sick of Whatisname's voice saying "That's not it!"

Status : Online | I solved the microscope puzzle by playing it, and playing it, and playing it, and playing it, etc for 2-3 months. The only one I didn't solve wastheone just before the lab where you had to press certain bricks or something like that.
I Liked the fact that once the game was finished, you could revisit each room and play the games to your heart's content - which I did for about ayear - especially the microscope puzzle.
If they do come out with a third, I hope it is better than the 11th Guest.

| Deleted User | I haven't heard anything about The Collector recently- the latest release date is 3rd quarter 2003, which would suggest that it'd be in stores now. It's not. > According to the Schedule of Upcoming releases it includes a first-person shooter mode where you must battle a minotaur.

I never had any trouble with the spider puzzle on the door, but the microscope ... whew! Glad the game had the option to visit the book in the library to get the puzzle solved.
If you've seen the trailer, then there is a 1st person view of a sword battling a minotaur ... I assume that's the action sequence.
I saw that it was supposed to be released at the end of 2003 and since I hadn't heard anything (or seen anything), I had to ask! Maybe there's a JA+ staff member around here who knows something more.

You know, I don't even remember the microscope puzzle, all I do remember is that it was only the spider one that completely stuck us. However, I did take a few months to finish the game - so it was probably just a case of try and try again until I got it. Our daughter was playing it at the same time and it was a bit of a race to see who could solve the puzzles first!

judging by the graphics for that particular scene (which are clearly still pre-rendered fmv) i am going to place a bet that it's either a non-interactive action sequence or one with very limited interactivity. so have no fears, i doubt that 'the collector' will feature a first-person fighting engine

You found a w/t with the solution to the microscope puzzle? Mine didn't know that either. Apart from that, I finished every puzzle in T7G on my own. I didn't know how I managed to solve the sword puzzle (and I'm still not sure) but eventually I got it, by sheer trying and trying again. I spent (and spend when replaying) most time on the chess-like games. That's why I have a proper w/t (book) for T11H, I couldn't handle the maximum moves-puzzles.

Status : Online | I bought the freaking hint book for the microscope puzzle - I didn't want to resort to using the library book. I was pretty darn angry when I read this in the book:
It is not necessary to beat this game to advance through the Seventh Guest, and you will not be missing anything if you can't beat it. To our knowledge, nobody has a consistent strategy to beat this game, not even Graeme! If anyone has been able to develop a consistent, repeatable strategy, send us a note. One thing the computer (Stauf) will not do is move into an area of two empty spaces surrounded by other cells. This is obvious because then you could move into the remaining space and grab all those cells! Perhaps there's a strategy that makes use of this.

And in this case, that's not a bad thing.

According to Rob Landeros there are still a couple of parties interested in the Collector. The game is 'not dead yet'. But since it's hard to publish an adventuregame it might change into a more action-oriented game for the consolemarket. This really iratates me.... 7th Guest & 11th Hour weren't exactly adventure games (the puzzles were not part of the overall story line and only served as unlock keys to bits of story).... and to say they'd consider making it a more action orientated title to suit the 'dim' console owners (who probably wouldn't buy the title anyway) just sends me over the edge...

Status : Offline | You're right Susan, the music during the intro is very good! So is the music during the trailer (that music was in the first game too, if I recall correctly. Sounded familiar anyway). I hope this game gets a publisher. I really enjoyed The 7th Guest, though I never finished the game. It was always nice to find out which new room you could access after solving a puzzle. The trailer for The Collector looks promising too!

Both publish adventure games and the 7th Guest is a pretty big name in the adventure game world. They must be doing something wrong if they haven't gotten one of them as a publisher yet.
