Hi Mark,

Great numbers on your demo
but a word of advice that came to me via one of JA others members; don't put too much hope in the demo download numbers.  As he told me, people will always go for something if it is free.

I know that the numbers that I have had for my demo haven't been a very good indicator of what sales could be :'(

That said, good luck with QFU and the other project you mentioned

Skye,

I agree with what you say.
emo downloads don't reflect sales.

My main aim is to get my game finished, more than selling it.

I was amazed when I read it took you seven years to complete your game. I thought after spending a couple of years, I was taking too long.

I gather your game came on cd.

Can it be obtained in Australia?

Hi Mark,

Yes the game was released on CD.  It isn't available in stores but we do ship worldwide and have actually sold a few to residents of Australia.

Once I found the Adventure Maker program things went a lot faster and from the start with AM it took about 2 years to put the game together then about 6 months of Beta testing and a few months of fine tuning after that.  The other 4 years (at the beginning) was trying to find a group or single person who could program the game engine (lots of starts and lots of people just quit) finding programs that could do the things we wanted and then learning how to use them.

Game making is not an easy task when you don't know a lot about programming

It's actually not too bad Skye. Once you past displaying an image and playing sound files, it's all just glorified if...then statements. Like reading the mouse position to check if the user is within a hotspot box located at 100,100,200,200:

If MouseX > 100 and Mouse X < 200 and MouseY > 100 and Mouse Y < 200 Then...

Of course that could end up being HUGE if you have a lot of hotspots in your game, so it would be best to store all of the hotspots in an array and base the if...then checks with numbers obtained from the array dependent on where the user is currently at.

While this is more work than using something like AM, the benefits are that you can make your game do whatever you want without being limited by what AM will let you do.  Somehow listening to a customer complain about something and having to tell them that it's part of AM and you can't do anything about it has to suck. I've chosen the route I am on because I don't like working with one hand tied behind my back.

I haven't  cancelled the game.

I have gone back to work  for awhile. I am hoping to get back to it around June this year.

Ummm, Mark?  There is no website for this publisher. Do they still exist?

Hi Ivinia,

No, their website doesn't exist anymore.

Basically another dubious publisher.  I never had any contact from them after the early stages of an agreement, between me and them.

Ouch!  That totally bites. Sorry to hear that. How is this gaming going? Any hint of a release date (roughly)?

I am seriously thinking of having a Egyptian Level with traps and puzzles.

Please leave a comment on what your thoughts are about it.
