| Deleted User | Having seen the trailer and also screens for Schizm 2, it's not going to be long before these games are of a similar quality to Riven or Schizm.
They offer the same sort of playability as the older games, as in puzzles, and whilst they may not look quite as good still - moving they're astounding. The details are not always in the textures, but what makes up the movement in the world. They're more alive - whereas the old 2D games had to rely on trickery and repeated animation, these new 3D titles just "feel" more real in the stuff I've seen so far.
Atmospheric effects (like the snow in the Schizm trailer) and moving scenery you can travel around just, for me at least, beat the old 2D games hand down in terms of atmosphere.
What am I trying to say? Don't prejudge pure 3D games until you've had the chance to walk around them. 2D flat screens of them are, for the moment, always going to look worse than games meant to be played in static renders, which are done on multiple high-end computers with multiple render passes for different lighting and shader effects.
But consider this - they look better than Myst, which was the height of technology 10 years ago. In 5 years time god knows what we'll be looking at.
One last thing - I'm still not happy with the look of the avatars in Uru from the shots so far. It's not that they seem angular - just not particularly good in terms of the rest of the 3D scenery. Nolf2 proved to me you could have good modelling and bg's.

Status : Online | I'm still being cautious about Uru. While it looks very good, I have concerns about how well the idea of cooperative puzzle solving is going to work - not that it's likely to matter to me, since I almost certainly won't subscribe to the online part. But it seems to me that Uru will be very different, in terms of both gameplay and atmosphere, to the other Myst games - which could attract new fans but might also alienate old ones. I'm also concerned about whether the single-player game will have a proper story and structure, or just be tacked on as a 'teaser' for the online game.

Status : Online | That is what I am wondering too, Ksandra. But, will buy the game and if good, will try the online (which I have never done) and if true about the 3 months free, I should know within 3 months whether it is something I want to do with my time and moneyl

Status : Online | I almost forgot about the online coop. Can't wait to solve a lever puzzle or any puzzle with another person. Imagine walking around the mechanisms trying to figure out together what levers to turn and when. Sounds like it could be a blast with no shooting. What a relief. Ok maybe some hitting with a heavy object for a few seconds like with the Myst 3 crazy bad guy near the end, but that's not even close to a shooter game.
I may spend most of my spare time online in Uru just for coop. And here's a good reason why. They could have hand gestures for confusion or frustration. You know like when the two or three of you can't solve the puzzle then you see each other throw up their hands. It would, however, probably be scripted hand gesturing but still quite a kick I bet for an online multiplayer AG.

All those beta testers will be eager to give their views and experiences. Looks like there are a ton of them too, since they have been signing people up for the beta test since January of this year. Should be more than enough inside info to make a reasoned decision on whether URU will work for me or not.
But I didn't want to miss out on all the goodies - so just took the plunge and pre-ordered.

| Deleted User | eGoatee: I seem to remember reading that the online part of Uru will support full voice chat, so hand gestures won't be necessary.
But I could be wrong.

Status : Online | From what I understand, the Myst 10th Anniversary package contains all 3 Myst games on one DVD-ROM. It may also contain a few other extras like an interview with the Rand brothers, wallpaper, etc. I don't think it included RealMyst though. I forget if it was a thread at JA or somewhere else where this was stated. Anyways, if you pre-order through Ubisoft or certain brick and mortar stores or even Amazon I think, you get this extra.
