I have only 450 mghz so this is probably the cause for my jerky video on all adventure games I play no exceptions in video mode. but every thing else on the games is fine. My Graphics card is a recomended one for myst 3 and Syberia. Plenty of memory. I suppose the only thing to do would be to upgrade to a faster running computer as my mother board is at its limit so I am told. Any thoughts or am I right ???

I would have said that a lack of RAM would have been your problem but you say you have plenty so that's probably not it.

Make sure you aren't running anything else in the background at the same time (Virus checkers, dowload managers, anything).

If that doesn't work, try making sure you have up to date graphics card and soundcard drivers.

Other than that...not sure...would probably need more information.

You should have 256 RAM if you are running Windows 98 or above as well. Its very easy and cheap to add RAM.
Also, you could upgrade your video card, I bought the Geforce 4 MX (which is not as good as the Ti but is half the price at $99). That is potentially the best bang for the buck.

I think a 450 MHz should be sufficient for most adventure games.

ALL adventure games???

Even the older ones???

I played Exile on a PII 400 with an ATI Rage 128 with no jerking. But then I did the full install so the game was reading the video off the hard drive and not the CD drive. Your processor is good enough for Exile though.

What video card do you have?
Maybe it's too fast and needs to have the graphics acceleration reduced.

How severe is the jerking? Is it just a little hiccup once every few seconds or is it jerk jerk jerk all the time? Are your games reading the videos off the CD drive or the hard drive.

Here's something else you can try. It worked for me improving video playback performance on some of my older games eg. Red Alert2. I have a state of the art PC and I'm also running XP so I knew my machine wasn't the problem.

Try this out:

Click on START->RUN and type in dxdiag. Under the SOUND tab try reducing the acceleration slider down a notch or two and try running the game again. If it still doesn't work try reducing it down further. Also make sure all your drivers are working properly by running the tests in this DirectX program.

Good luck!!!!
