I have a jewelcase re-release (9.95 US).  It worked great on my XP.  
id follow another's advice and never quit from the second disk (in the second half of the game) - always loaded a previous save from Disk 1, swapped disks and then quit.  Not sure if this was necessary with the rerelease but did it anyway just to be sure.

Still adventuring after all these years!

Patiently awaiting The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, and Bracken Tor... 

... and Asylum if it's not tooooo scary...
