Oh my God! Who's going to tell my husband? : You never know - maybe he'll be okay with it - : But, then again... maybe not... (and no it doesn't make you one).
I didn't like the game. I played T7G first and loved the interactive feel, and movement - Myst/Riven etc... just isn't my cup of tea.

I'm one of the lucky unlesbians: I love ALL adventures. It's SirDave's thread. And I'm sure we'll get back on topic eventually.

Status : Offline | This is a totally new concept to me - keeping threads on one topic of conversation only. If you'd ever sat in a room with my mother for 5 minutes you'd understand why. She dances and jumps and leaps from one idea to another (not necessarily connected in any way to the idea preceeding or following), and she never gets anyone's name right, not even mine. So it's quite a work out for the old grey cells just following the conversation.
I'm afraid I find the obsession with 'staying within the lines' a bit too anal retentive for me. I therefore reserve the right (for inherited cultural reasons) to change topic, drift off topic and generally obsfucate the point at any time. Ok?
so.... what was the point again?

Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

Yes, this is the wrong word. You mean puzzles. And all adventures are based on puzzles. Is TLJ a puzzle game? The gameplay is based entirely on puzzles. For SirDave's sake, please don't argue about this or he may have an aneurism, which would be a great loss to this board. Yes. Didn't you realize how much you love Myst?
Yep puzzles :-[
Actually, there was this game in Greece made in Cyprus "Opsis" that was named at the start adventure and it was like myst, and a rant became because most critics named it puzzle game and not adventure, thus taking low scores :
*whispers to SirDave) please don't get an aneurism

OK. Now let's not discuss this anymore. We're discussing the difference between the plot of Myst and the plot of other adventure games, with nonsense about homosexuality thrown in for flavour. Any further discussion about whether Myst is a puzzle or adventure game is unwelcome. In a good way.

Interesting previously Riven unknown fact (might be considered a MILD SPOILER by the most persnickety of players, but I don't think it really is because the main facts I mention are self-evident when you play Riven): * * * * * When playing Riven you have to figure out the D'Ni numbering system and from that you determine certain codes. What I found out from playing Riven thru a second time is that the very structure of a crucial part of the numbering system changes everytime you start a new game so that some codes you determined previously don't work the next time you play!

The future ain't what it used to be!

As far as what I thought of the two games, I thought Riven was the best of the two because it had a better story and gave a little info on what you where doing there. .

I don't think games should have game help at all. If the puzzles in the game are really good, you should be able to solve them without in-game hints, a "hint sound", or using walkthroughs. Adding in-game hints says "We know our game is too hard/the puzzles are too illogical, so we'll just solve them for you so you can see the pretty cutscene."
