I enjoyed Museum Mystery - which is a kids puzzle game - but it had some really creative ones.
Conspiracy or KGB. It has Donald Sutherland doing a voice cameo, interesting plot and it's about the russian KGB from an inside perspective.
Backpacker: The Lost Florence Goldmine. Had the funniest narrations for the many death scenes you can go through. Not that it is an action game at all.
Wrath of the Gods. Huge game. A kind of Fractured History approach to mythology. Very campy style.
Rent A Hero: Not an unkown game - but very overlooked. Not real long - but has the best dragon, great music and sort of a classic anti-hero feel to it. I think it got lost in the Southpeak closure. It was released very soon before they closed shop.
There are others - but these come to mind first.

Some things are time based, but I think it's a classic example of how puzzles (especially one difficult one) should be implemented in adventure games.

I remember it was very well done but, since there's nothing remarkable I can actually remember, it was just an average adventure. I think it was made in Greece or Czech, not really sure.

I didn't like the time-based puzzles in KGB much. Plus this game probably has more dead ends than I've ever seen. The plot however is really very interesting and unique.

| Deleted User | The Prisoner. It was based on the British sci-fi TV summer replacement series of the same name was one of the first "graphic" adventure games, released for the Apple II back in about 1981. The graphics were very basic ASCII art, but you could move your icon around to explore "The Island." Most of the game still depended on using a text parser, but it was wonderfully eerie and managed somehow to capture the paranoid flavor of the TV show.

I think you're the first person to talk about this game here. I saw it unsold in the computer shop that I always go. Looked at it for a couple of times but never gotten to buy it. Rael, do you think I would regret buying it?

Rael, do you think I would regret buying it? Well, I might load it again if you want a fresh opinion. I remember it was pretty average. It was never distributed outside Europe (to my knowledge) so you could grab it, just for the heck of it.

After that came Out of this World - Rael liked it (as I recall) - I thought it parsed its lips and drew wind (sucked)... But, in all fairness I'll have to give it a shot again for Rael....

No wonder. It was only one copy and I bet it's still there. I don't know if it's brand new, I think it looks kind of old. One more question... Is it a thrilling/ scary game?

Although it had a few well done kinda scary scenes. I will give it another shot and get back to you. However, provided you can get it cheap, it would be nice to get a hold of it as is very uncommon.

Status : Online | Synnergist, which I am playing right now for the second time. Wierd game by Vicarious Visions. Really hard to launch because of crappy programming, but oddly endearing to me. Like mashed potatoes in January.
Wasteland, which I just found in the PC format and isn't really obscure but so far is really fun though I have a freeze thing I need to figure out. Very cool game if I can get it to run right.
Again, not super obscure, but It Came From The Desert is also kinda cool, shoot outs with big spiders and sneaking around the hospitals, etc.
Bazooka Sue by the same outfit who did Chewy Esc From F5 looks good even though it is in German only.
The Third Courier which is again not rare but I have still yet to read of anyone actually playing it.

Yep, you are. It was the worse game I ever partially played. Not only that, but the most disappointing as it had a lot of potential. You only had so much time to finish the game and if you ran out, it was start from the beginning.

Status : Online | My favorite "new" obscure adventure game is Bad Milk. Here's where you can get it.
http://www.dreamingmedia.com/cgi-bin/index.phtml
Bad Milk was a winner at the 2002 Independent Game Festival. I like the game a lot. It's not perfect, but it's a great experience.
It's not a long game, and you'll probably find it easy (I of course am having some trouble with the puzzles). I'm not sure if there even is a game save feature (I never found it) but I don't think that will be a problem for most of you.
It's clever, and it has a cool little story with a nifty little twist. Given that the developers don't have an adventure game background, I think the game plays nicely, I was surprised. How the game looks is astounding (don't have any other words to describe it), the video images don't look like any other game at all. There are some very interesting puzzles. I can't explain how wonderful the maze puzzle is (I'm not a fan of mazes) - you play it after you have been temporarily blinded!
There's a demo of the game, on their site, as well as other free goodies. Also read the "who are we" section, on their site. What a trip!
Regards, mszv

Cool...boxed Maupiti. Creme de le creme...Someday I will find mine. It's just a matter of time.
I am getting Fascination soon. That looks to be interesting.

Status : Online | I used to play at my old CP-400 (also known as "coco", or color computer) an adventure called "Martian Crypt". It was, I think, my first adventure game ever. I was 7 or 8 years old that time.
Martian Crypt is a text parser game, with very limited interface. Graphics looked good at the time, but now it should look really ugly (the screen only featured 4 colors at a time IIRC).
In the game, you start in Mars after your spaceship crashes on the planet surface. Then you have to make your way through the sandy dunes and find the alien king.
That is pretty much all of the game but I remember to have really liked it back then...never got to play it once more, but I still want to play it again...for old times sake.

Like Scout, I liked Synnergist a lot. Another obscure game I enjoyed playing was Treasure Hunter. It's not a classic or anything, but I liked it.
An obscure game I thought was hilariously bad was Animal.

Someone must have liked it, they made a sequel. The sequel was pretty bad though; cool story, characters and cut scenes, but truly abysmal gameplay (and while D was an adventure game, D2 was an action game, so go figure).
Always been kinda curious about D.

Well, D is sorta interesting... but if I had paid money for it (I had it borrowed), I'd have been pretty upset. You cannot save the game and have two hours to finish it. Which actually isn't that difficult. It is simply way too short, has two possible endings and beyond that there's really no replayability. So if you're a slower player, you might spend a total of about 3 hours playing D.
The plot of D is IMO not that terrible, but the "acting" in the cutscenes (all CG characters) leaves a lot to be desired.
