Status : Offline | Hmm, I've downloaded BASS, but seem unable to unwrap it with winzip. I don't have any SCUMM files installed as I didn't know which to download (lots of source files, tools files and what not :-/). I thought I wouldn't need it since my computer has not yet showed any problems with older LucasArts games.
Can anyone tell which SCUMM files I need to download to be able to play BASS on my Win98 based computer?

thanks alkis! Sounds like a job for tomorrow morning, when I have a fresh mind and can fully focus on this stuff. Yes, it might not be difficult, but for a computer newbie like me it's a mammoth job.

Kudos to Revolution for releasing now two classic games as freeware. Let's hope more companies do like this!

The CD version has a great comic book intro, a fine musical score and funny, understated, vocal performances from a very good and very British company of actors. Fans of Dr. Who and The Avengers will be at home here.
Revolution's other free graphical adventure game, PC only, is Lure of the Temptress  www.revolution.co.uk/_display.php?id=10), a 1.3 MB download.
If you are in a mood for action and are running Windows with DX 8.1 or higher, dust off that old copy of Doom and head over to DoomsdayHQ.com (www.doomsdayhq.com/index.php) for the fantastic Kickstart engine, high-res graphic and music plug-ins.

Heres the download page (scroll down below the daily snap shot to the "0.5.0 Release binaries" and select "Windows Installer ", the first item in the list) http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php Everything after that is very easy.
It is actually better to use ScummVM than the original sky.exe (which isn't even included with the BASS download anyway) for 2 reasons imo: 1. No problems setting up the sound in any OS 2. The Scroll Lock bug that occurs in the early part of the game has been fixed by scummvm.
And thank you rev for being so good to the fans! I wish Sierra and Lucasarts would be as nice as Rev have been.
(p.s. for those who don't know, Rev also gave the nice scummvm team the source code to BS1 and 2 so in the future you'll be able to use it to run them also with no hassle)

Status : Online | Hi, I'm a dope. I installed the win installer for ScummVm on my XP machine. When I start it, I get 2 windows, one that says 'unable to open configuration file C:\WINDOWS\scummvm.ini ' The other window opens up scummvm and I click on ADD GAME, then C for the directory. I put BASS files in a folder called sky. It can't find it. It must just be me, but I can't figure out from the readme how to name these game files.

When you try to locate the game via ScummVM, and open the directory, you see no files in there and maybe that makes you think that the program can't find it. You are not supposed to see any files! Just go to the directory and then click on 'Choose'. You should now see 'Beneath a Steel Sky' on screen. Click on it to highlight it and then on 'Start'.

Thanks again.

Yes, it should work just fine, I think. You only need to download the Windows Installer file mentioned in DomStLeger's post, then run ScummVM on your computer, press choose game and then BASS will be an option there if you have installed the game on your pc.
