OK, here's a thing that's been bugging me...

Was watching the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean the other day and it got me thinking (note this is all based on the trailer, haven't seen the film yet!):

OK, you've got this young inexperienced guy with no real pirate experience who recruits an experienced pirate and his ship and gets caught in a quest to save an apparently strong-willed and capable woman of influence and power, who has been kidnapped by a zombie pirate and his skeletal pirate minions (and could it be the head zombie pirate is slightly infatuated with the lass?)

...this reminds me of something, can't quite place my finger on it

Isn`t it nice to have been there first?I understand the film has a very high rating.Shall we sit in the audience and tell everyone loudly what happens?

You implying GT is an inexperienced guy with no real pirate experience?

Deleted UserI can't wait to see Johnny Depp swordfight like a cow.

Although.... if he can hold his breath for 10 minutes, I now know what women see in him.  hehehehe

Deleted UserI have high hopes on this movie and I know it would turn out great. It's going to be open in the cinema's here at the end of August. I can't wait to see Johnny Depp  having to put on lots of eye shadows. Plus Orlando working with him side by side.

I also had the same opinion as Cerberus on the story similar to Monkey Island. Cool isn't it!!!

Deleted UserWHat's cute about this movie is that even his daughter(Depp's daughter) even thinks his dad is a pirate.

I believe the reason for the similarities is that both Monkey Island & the Disneyland ride (and now film) 'Pirates of the Carribean' were based on/influenced by the same book. Hence the familiar plot.

It opens here in the UK on the 7th.

I've got to say this is one of the films I've been quite looking forward to (I mean c'mon - a ship-full of bloodthirsty zombie Pirates, women in tight corsets and Jonny Depp with his always funny "co-ker-ney" accent! What more do you need!).

...Though I'll be a little disapointed if they haven't managed to fit a banana picker into the plot somewhere.

BTW, didn't I just read Johnny Depp is going to be playing Willy Wonka in Tim Burtons version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Class.

Wow, that would be fantastic news!
Burton and Depp in one film has always resulted in fantastic films!

And I'm looking forward to Pirates of the Caribbean too. Although, as usual we have to wait longer than the Brits. Unusually we only have to wait one week longer.

Wow! THanks BacardiJim. And I thought Monkey Island was based on the theme park.

I found this on the net http://www.literaturepage.com/read/treasureisland.html

Deleted UserOne thing though, Treasure Island doesn't have a ghost ship. How can that be related to the movie and the game?

Deleted UserNo unfortunately I haven't played any BS games. :-/

Deleted UserSarah:  I don't think Itsgood2slide meant that literally.  He was referring to the fact that the style and subject matter of Treasure Island served as the inspiration for the ride....which then inspired the movie.  The book also inspired the MI games.  Swashbuckling, buried treasure, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum, peg-legs, parrots, grog... all that stuff.

Deleted UserBacardiJim: So it inspires both of the game and the film. Makes more sense. Now my confusion is over.

Anne: I know it's a great game and I am waiting for the latest Broken Sword game and also trying to find the old Broken Sword games in my local store before going online to buy it.
Oh, and I didn't know it is in some way has a comedic scene. I thought it was a serious game. Cool.

2 AUG 2003 at 10:31pm
Deleted UserBoth BS games are wonderful  The first one has a more cohesive plot, while the second is a bit funnier.
Not that the first one isn't funny.)  Gorgeous 2D animation from a man who used to work for Don Bluth.  And they are both long games.  Lots of game for your buck/pound/euro.

2 AUG 2003 at 10:36pm
Deleted UserIs it a 3rd person point and click from the back only? Or it has multiple camera angle like in Syberia.

2 AUG 2003 at 10:38pm
Deleted UserIt's side-scrolling for the most part.  Switches to alternate camera angles occasionally.

Sarah, the BS games are really some of the best adventure games ever produced. I'm replaying the first one at the moment and had not realised earlier with how many jokes and one-liners this game is filled.
The good thing though is that this humor is never in the way of the more serious story line. It's very well balanced.
