Recognize the problem. Happened to me too, but I just had to change my resolution/color depth/whatever to 16-bit instead of 32-bit, in the game options, re-start from a save prior to the crash (ofcourse), then let the animation play, and then change back to 32-bit afterwards.

I think the books are better. Not that I know anything of the games, mind you.

That's really interesting, I only had an 8meg video card and had to upgrade to get it to even install properly - now our daughter is having problems with it too - can't seem to find out from her what video card she has, but she keeps uninstalling, re-installing getting rid of old saved games etc. to keep going. Now she's totally p***d off with it. I'll email her your solution and see if it helps (that is if she even knows what you're talking about!). May have to go over and do it for her myself. She's being too stingy to upgrade her card or ram!

Peter has also put up some screenshots in his gallery to show what the game is like. If you like solving different kinds of puzzles and proving you have mastered them then I recommend it to you. www.mulawa.net/magnetic

Status : Online | I just finished Monkey Island 3-4, and I'm going back and playing Monkey Island 1 again....for the 50th time it seems. I've had Discworld Noir, and have played a bit ways, but something puts me off. I don't know what it is. I've been trying to find Discworld and Discworld 2, because I love older adventure games with a little cartoonyness to them. I prefer those a helluva lot more than other engines.

If you don't find the correct path to figure out Victoria Morsell persecution, if you try and try several...several times.....there are lots of RAM required to reload the preveiw saved game. You are so right. Happened to me a lot, SLOWWWW loading times, but not crash.
Anyway, replaying I have no mouth and I must scream!!! Yes, Jelous!!!jealous me!!
Ahhhhh.... What a "game".
Anyway, I cried (Like in the first time) at some scenes. Don't play this game if your'e a 13 years old girl (Like me, or 10 when I first played it!!!). Horrible game, in both negative and positve way.

I am already running it as 16-bit and low detail yes it crashes here. It has worked fine up until this point with my ATI Xpert@Play 98 PCI card. Maybe I'll have to install it at a friend's just to get through this point (and any other that might come up).

Yes I know, already played Discworld 1 from the undedogs but didn't enjoy it much... I really liked discworld 2 though, I still have it on CDrom and really need to get to playing it again.
Discworld Noir is still avaliable at shops, or at least ONE shop, and I bought it from them, however all of their copies have a certain bug that you can't get into the "new hall" and thus you are stuck after getting pretty far in the game... so now I'm waiting, if there's no other way to get a game that works (I've returned my copy) I'll order one from amazon, hopefully I can.
thanks for the advice though, I've been downloading all sorts of adventure games from the underdogs, some are very good.

But then again, is an ATI Xpert graphics card supported? Not on my box, it isn't. But then again, I don't think that cards that are not listed will not work by definition, but it could affect game behavior in some places (like that particular animation), I could overcome it by switching to lower color depth, maybe I was lucky that worked.
Anyway, I can't test it, because, since I had already played the game once (in low options) I played again (in high options) and thus had a minimum of saved games. The only one I have in that area is right after the chain was thrown. Can you just transfer a saved game from one copy to another? If so, mine is available, if the 16-bit thing doesn't work. When I was playing, that was the only animation I had trouble with, with every option set on its maximum, so if there's any other problem after that, don't blame it on the game.

I fully realize that my card is below the minimum specs for the game. I never meant to infer otherwise or put blame on the game for the problems I'm having. I take full responsibility for any problems resulting from my playing the game on a sub-spec system. I just want to get it to work if possible.
I did finally get past that part. Thanks to those who offered to help. I ended up hitting escape at just the right moment as he went to throw the chain and also as I went to place the hook on it. It took several tries to get just the right moment. I'll just chalk it up as the most annoying timed sequence puzzle in an adventure game ever, introduced solely by me by using a sub-par system to make the game more challenging. Esc, crash, dang. Restart. Esc, crash, dang. Restart. Esc, no crash, woo-hoo!
So, now I'm playing Syberia once again, looking for an exit visa that Oscar can take and shove it ...

Good for you! Different cards may need different solutions to by-pass. Happy travelling! (as Kate I mean)

I've gone mad and bought loads of old adventure stuff so I've a lot to choose from. Even so I started on BS II which I bought when it came out but never started - don't ask me why, just always seem to have an excuse not to!

Just finished Fable. It was an OK game: easy puzzles, friendly interface...everything OK. But the ending...UGH! It made me SICK!!! >
Now I am playing The Last Express. VERY GOOD! I loved the story and the characters! The gameplay is really unusual.... I liked it!!
