Hi
I am not a game developer but I am developing a 2D game engine and Game Maker for games like the old Sierra type.  I thought of an idea that could be used to make Agventure games that could be played by a novice gamer and seasoned gamers alike.
What you could do is work a special room into the game some where that would include clues to puzzles and then these cluse could be worded  in a way to make the game hard or easy.  In my game engine I can even check to see if a person is stuck in a certain part of the game or not. This info could be used to change the clues as well.  It would help the gamer so he would'nt have to go download a walkthrough just to get through the game and he or she would'nt feel like he wasn't smart enough to get through it by himself or herself.
This has been done before in the old Tex Murphy games and I always though it was a good idea and oc course Her Interactive does a pretty good job in this department as well.

If the game is set in modern, or future time.. perhaps this could work like 'call a friend' You take out you mobile and speak to some, who gives you a 'new angle' on  a puzzle as a sort of hint?

this reminds me of the hint feature in the 11th Hour. I like the idea!
