Ok, is it me, or was FreeSpace 2 one of the greatest space sims of all time?  It's plot was second only to Wing Commander (it's similar to Propecy, but much better done), and it's gameplay was second only to TIE Fighter.  Was it not a complete and total ripoff to not come out with a third one?  I mean, I think anyone who's played it would agree with me that Volition intended it to be a trilogy.  I know there are a lot of fan-made campaigns out there for it, does anyone know if any of them are any good or develop the plot at all?

I should go back and play both of them then, I never really played either of them much.  I didn't get the expansion pack for Freespace 1 either.

I'm waiting for a Freelancer expansion pack or a Freelancer 2 right now.

Freespace 1 was a solid B+ game, basically a well done clone, without much that was unique.  FreeSpace 2 was an amazing game, though, rivaling TIE Fighter and the WC series.  Gorgeous graphics, great action, a captivating plot.  Pretty much everything you need to make a sweet ass space sim.

Pretty exciting thread, huh?  Well I'm off to install Freespace 1, since you kinda have to beat the first game to understand the second.

This is great, I have a list of games that are going to take me forever to be.
Icewind Dale 2
Arcanum
Morrowind (with both expansion packs)
Fallout
Freespace
No one lives forever 2

Yay for me and my lack of an attention span!

You could probably skip to FreeSpace 2 without a huge amount of trouble.  They give you a good synopsis of the first game in the intro.  If you want the full experience, though, by all means go for both.
