I'm really happy about this. I hated RPGs until I played Divine Divinity, but it was a great game - lovely graphics and music, and loads of subplots and side-quests as well as the usual 'kill all the monsters' stuff. And now Larian Studios are making not one, but two more games set in the same universe!

I heard Divine Divinity is good but the name and box art are really scaring me off, I know that's lame but come on people, a retarded monkey could do better.  That's maybe a little harsh but you get the point.

omg....I am so excited!  I loved Divine Divinity so much....i couldn't put it down.  Wonderfully addictive, great play style, very interactive with the game world, and fantastic music. One of my favorite games of all time...

and now a sequel, yeah!

Come on, you refuse to buy a game because of the name? I agree it's awful, but it's not like it affects the gameplay or anything. As for the sequel, I have no idea what they're going to call it.

Luckily, i heard of the game through great praise and excitement at a RPG forum...so I already knew I'd enjoy it, and never gave the name and box any attention....it's a wonderful game.....gee, now I want to play it again..

It never really occured to me how bad the name was until now.  It's akin to making a game called "Awesome Awesomeness".

Best not to write things like that - someone at Larian might see it and think it's a good idea

The box art just scared me off because it looked like some type of religious game with the angel on the box and the words DIVINE DIVINITY.  I have to many games to beat currently anyway.

I know what you mean...but having played it in its entirety, rest assured it is no more religious than Diablo or any other RPG with cleric types.  The box and title just do not match the game itself...terrible packaging and name....but the game is WONDERFUL, i promise.

I'll probably pick it up when it becomes cheap.  Like I said, I have too many games to catch up on.  And they're pretty much all Bioware games I need to beat.

the Bioware games are definitely time intensive, but worth it...i've completed Planescape Torment and Baldurs Gate, and am now involved in Baldurs Gate II with Neverwinter Nights on queue!

Planescape Torment was probably the best RPG I've ever played. Ever.

I assume you got the good ending involving the knife

knife? no..   the ending i got was solemn.. i saved before the end and tried different outcomes but only found two...awful and solemn..the solemn one was good...but no knife...i think i need to replay it!   I want to replay it anyway, as I only learned later that maxing intelligence and wisdom gave you a fuller, richer game..

*** PLANESCAPE SPOILERS (HOW TO GET GOOD ENDING) ***

To get the best ending you need to get the blade of the immortal and threaten to kill yourself with it.  This forces the transcendent one to merge with you and give you your mortality back.

No, you don't really need any blade
It's also possible to threaten to destroy yourself through sheer willpower. But you need really high wisdom and/or intelligence for that.

SPOILERS!!!!

Well I don't remember it well but you are supposed to have a high intelligence which allows to to beat the game without killing the trancendent one or whatever his name was which results in a cool ending.

MichalN, isn't that what that knife thing is used for, to threaten to kill yourself?

Maybe, but I could threaten him without any knife. Something like "I will unmake myself if I believe hard enough".

Why did the Transcendent One exist anyway?  Were they formed from the Nameless One dying over and over again?  I really need to play that game over again, I probably missed many things.

The Transcendent One was your mortality, separated from you.  He had to keep killing you over and over to prevent you from remembering who you were and to maintain his independence.

Well, now i really have to play Planescape again.  I found out after i played that there were many more dialogue options available with maxed out intelligence and wisdom...as well as something to do with riddles in one of the tombs...but i had no idea a good ending is ONLY available with those stats...i feel like i missed 10% of a game I loved.  I just didn't know <sniff> ...i'm so used to role-playing games in which characters need strength, dexterity and constitution in generous amounts.

Just more evidence as to how special this game really is.

Is Planescape Torment anything like Divine Divinity? I've heard it's good, but then I also heard Summoner was good and I hated it.

I wouldn't call Planescape like Divine Divinity, but I loved both games..and both have similar isometric points of view.  I just got Summoner as well, started it but wasn't too impressed with the beginning (I hate when crates and barrels can't be opened...games like Divine Divinity, Morrowind, and Might & Magic VI have spoiled me).

What Planescape and Divinity share are immersive story telling that makes you feel...

Divine Divinity really made me happy.  I liked how the quests involved helping people and making a difference in the world.

Planescape Torment made me really ponder life..it's a bit sad at times, kind of like a good movie which tugs on the heartstrings. It's a very meaningful game.  My memories of it are actually much like a movie memory...it's the characters and story that stayed with me.
