Hello everyone! I'm new to these forums and I'm always reading more things about the amateur AG community.
I'm developing a game with a team.
Anyway, the point of this is to ask if anyone here is hoping for a carrer in adventure game (or just game) development in the futue (I mean mostly those who are still studying, not working, but those too lol).
I'm only in 8th grade(14 years old), but for a long time my dream has been to make Adventure games proffessionally and for profit in the future.

So I'm just wondering if I'm the only one, or if there are other dreamers here like me.

Btw, I know there are even real AG developers here, such as Bill Tiller, and am very happy to be able to read advece/articles etc by pros lol.

P.s. How can I post a poll here?

Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

Hey Ginny, welsome to the forums. I dream of contributing to the AG scene as well. Right now I'm sixteen years old just finishing up my junior year of High School. If all goes well, I will go to Carnegie Mellon for a degree in Computer Science and perhaps one day I'll be on this forum telling people about the new game I'm programming

Ginny, a good start would be to join a fan game team. I can't tell you about the job outlook really. I wanted to be a game developer growing up, but I found graphic design more profitable. However, I just joined the King's Quest 9 team as a digital colorist, and it could be a kickstart into something else for me. There are also some plans I can't talk about here to "expand", but you'll have to join the team if you want to know about that. I'm bound to non-disclosure. But hey, go to the site at kq9.org and sign up for one of the positions. Most are in art, so give it a shot.

Hi! I'm new here too

I'm just 13 years old and I don't think about what I will do in the future, I just do what I can (and that's a lot
).
I learn maths (do you know that pi=3,1415926535...
), programing, 3D modeling/rendering...
Just wanted to ask two things:
Can Vue D'esprit4 do spherical or cubic 360x360 panoramas?
I can just do a 360 panorama in a cylinder.
Is Macromedia Director powerfull for an engine, or it's better to learn more in C++ ?

a good start would be to join a fan game team

Isn't  JA a team like that?

(sorry for my english)

Glad to hear there are young people around that like adventure games enough to want to create them.
I used to write them for the old Comedoor Amiga but havn't gotten back in to it on the PC yet.  I did write a game Engine and Maker for the Pc but it's a long shot from these new 3D Engines they are using now.

I would recommend, (some people may not like this) that you learn a 3D modelling skill. Programmers are everywhere, artists however are in shorter supply, and therefore more valuable.

Demetrios,

Just went to your site.  Very professional!  What
software would you recommend for 3d modeling?
Unfortunately, there are so many programs out there,
each with their own learning curve.  And everything
seems to be improving by leaps and bounds year after
year.  Whichever you choose may be surpassed (in
terms of capability) by some other package the
following year or two.   :-/

Hey Rob ! Thanks for the compliment on the site, I wish I could take the credit for making it, but our 3D artist George created it. It was made in 3D Studio MAX. I'm not a 3D artist, but from my limited experience with MAX I would have to say that it is probably the easiest to use. And there are plenty of excellent books on MAX as well.

But whichever program you use, the good thing is that the techniques of 3D modelling are the same on all of them, just the interfaces are different. However, some programs are better then others in their implimentations of some functions.

You can actually download 'learning' editions of Maya, and XSI/Softimage (and I believe 3D Studio MAX) and try them out.

Let me know what you think!

The problem is, good programmers are definitely rare, just as rare as good artists. And bad programmers can do a lot of damage.

So can bad artists
did you know there is a training for game design in the Netherlands? Now *that* is a good idea of you want to make games

As for the programming; I'm more graphix, but I'm learning C++ to make a game with AI innit, because for some strange reason I like my program outsmarting me (look at http://www.JDS-world.com/games/snake for my snake AI, you probably won't beat it)...

Another girl from Israel, this time my age! Wow, I see I'm not the only one down here playing Adventure Games. This is great!! Read my PM, and welcome to the forums!! Follow your dreams, and make an AG!!

P.S. - What is, if you don't mind, your real name? Of course it can be Ginny, but that's rare.
