Beautiful stuff, very cinematic, mysterious and original too. Just remembering this intro makes me want to play Syberia again, not for the fun but for the artistry and atmosphere.

One of my favorite intro is from Panzer Dragoon on Sega Saturn. The music was so beautiful and the all sequence had a lot of rythm and mystery. I actually only watched this and never could afford the console at that time but I was very tempted.
Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it.

Without any doubt Fallout(the first one).."war, war never changes"..amazing stuff

Also..CannonFodder intro(only on Amiga) was great...it didn`t have any graphics besides few wacky shors..but the song..the best in-game song I`ve ever heard.

And also ChronoCross had great opening movie.

Day of the Tentacle... The zany music adds a lot to that intro.

More serious intro's: Wing Commander 3 and 4: Man, I will never forget the first time I saw the Kilrathi.

Other fav. intro's:

Full Throttle
Simon the Sorceror 2
Curse of Monkey Island
Duckman

You know, I forgot about Fallout 1.  All that imitation '50s stuff was cool!  As was the TV.

I've seen many clever, intelligent signatures.&&This isn't one of them.

Fullout?! The game was awesome but the intro was nothing special... :-/

Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

a few come to mind:

Under A Killing Moon: I think I've watched the intro to this more than any other. Actually, I know I have. Everything about it is..just right. Well, aside from the little graphical error in the window of Tex's office. One panel doesn't have a red sky.

MI3: Beautiful, funny, so well done. I'm sure the return of a beloved classic adds to the appeal. It's that sense if an old friend returning after a long absence.

Return to Zork: Even more intensely nostalgic than MI3.

Loom CD: The audio production is unparalleled. Absolutely gorgeous.
This week, I have been mostly playing

I was just about to say I can't understand why no one has mentioned BS1 - well done Kurt. I didn't play it until a few years ago and I was worried that I may have missed the boat as graphics had moved on considerably since its release. However, after watching that superb opening accompanied by the beautiful signature tune composed by Barrington Pheloung, I knew I was in for a classic. That game must have been untouchable when it was released.

All 3 Tex Murphy games, although Overseer stands out more than the other two, I think. Somehow seeing a young, naive Tex Murphy bowled over by slinky and seductive Sylvia Linsky gets more and more enjoyable every time I see it.

Both Broken Sword games indeed have great intros! And don't worry they were not forgotten, they actually were already mentioned in this thread.

I gotta jump back in here and second some games I forgot until y'all brought 'em up.  This trip down memory lane is fun!

Fullout?! The game was awesome but the intro was nothing special...

What can I say... I like watching commercials on tv!  It was probably the combination of that huge 50's retro manual with all the vault information and the intro cinematic that did the trick for me.

Under A Killing Moon. Everything about it is..just right. Well, aside from the little graphical error in the window of Tex's office. One panel doesn't have a red sky.

Whoa!  I thought I knew every detail of that (and the other Tex Games- I'm a gargantuan fan.) That's cool!  I'll have to play that again, just to look for that one window!

Now that I remember it, the interactive "Rise and Shine" sequence in TM: Overseer was one of my favorites.  Then again... I'm a complete Beatlemaniac.

The other game that comes to mind is Ultima 10 (or was it 9?): Ascension.  I didn't get into the game that much (I'm not good at fighting.)  But that opening, with the huge columns, was beautiful and impressive.

I've seen many clever, intelligent signatures.&&This isn't one of them.

Deleted UserAm I the only one who liked the opening of Dark Side of the Moon?  I know a lot of people thought the chromakeyed running-in-place of Uncle Jacob looked cheesy, but I thoroughly enjoyed the intro as a whole.

Among the others mentioned, I liked The Dig, Monkey Island 4, Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle (hmmmm... is there a theme going here?), Black Dahlia, Outcast (Though it shouldn't really be discussed in an "adventure game" column. hehehehe), Overseer, and another one I don't see mentioned:  Riddle of Master Lu.

Hm, let me see:

MI3
Dott
The Dig

I also loved Syberia's intro (even more than TLJ's), to bad the game itself didn't completely live up to my expectations.

I think it's pretty difficult to pick out just one favourite intro. but for me it's GK2.  Had it on a CDRom from PCUser magazine (just the intro as a demo actually),
before the game was released in Australia - just had to buy it as soon as possible then.

Laura Bow 2 !!
Fabulous music (my all-time fav with King's Quest 6), good pace, sets up the general mood, period and main character in no time. I'll put Simon the Sorcerer in second place ("For all of you traditionalists... *gets a rabbit out of the hat* ...knocks them down every time"
.

Parasite Eve 1 hands down! (and no, this is not a biased answer :
)

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

It's more like a pre-introduction sequence, but it's still my favorite:
Curse of Monkey Island.. the Dolby Surround effects, followed by the outstanding quote:
"THE MONKEYS ARE LISTENING"
What a fantastic way of resuming a series we thought we'd never see revive!
