Another composer I really like, one I've more recently discovered, is Yann Tiersen. The soundtrack he wrote for Amélie is so heartwarming, a perfect match with the film.
I don't own a lot of soundtracks, but I feel like listing them anyway :: -Almost Famous -Amélie -The Beach -Buffy, The Vampire Slayer -Classic Movie Themes 3 -Classic Movie Themes 4 -Empire Elite: The Best of the Best Modern Soundtracks series (Empire magazine has occasionally^put a cd with their magazine with the best of current soundtracks. they are amazing collections! ) -Gattaca -Kids -A Life Less Ordinary -Lost Highway -Magnolia -Mission: Impossible -Moulin Rouge -Moulin Rouge 2 -The Other Sister -Strange Days -Titan A.E. -Wild Things (Sex Crimes)
Next to film scores, I also love some of the soundtracks that consist of a collection of songs used in a film. Cameron Crowe for example always selects a great collections of songs for his films. Another great soundtrack collection is that of A Life less Ordinary, with music going from Elvis Presley to The Prodigy and it really fits together!!!

I can't remember the name of the composer who made the music for K-PAX, but that's another great soundtrack. And then there's Klaus Badelt, who did the score for The Time Machine. Damn it, that soundtrack has some excellent pieces.
However, I still think the most powerful soundtrack ever made was the one for Requiem for a Dream, although the CD is not that great, the music in the film is amazing.

Bram Stoker's Dracula The Omen A few choice songs from The Bodyguard
I also like the title track to "Goldeneye" and am planning to get the LOTR soundtrack soon. There's also one song on the upcoming "Freddy vs. Jason" soundtrack that I love.

My favourite probably is Slepy Hollow. Man, that score was soooooo beautiful, scary, mysterious and eery (sp?) at all the appropriate times! Oh, and another that I should get: the soundtrack of Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas. An enchanting film, score and great songs (especially 'What's This'.).

Hands down best film composer for me is Bernard Herrmann - I've got loads of his work - his Hitchcock scores (Vertigo and Psycho in particular) are genius.
I like a lot of Gabriel Yared as well - very emotive and melodic - English Patient, City of Angels, Betty Blue - are some of his.
Obviously Williams, although he can get a bit samey, it's impossible to deny him his place at the top of the heap in terms of modern soundtrack scoring.

I've got a fairly new recording by the LA Philharmonic which is superb, the infamous minute and a half of the shower sequence turns your stomach it's so brilliantly orchestrated. More often than not I skip it!

"O, Brother Where Art Thou?" -- average movie, excellent sound track. Perfect fit for the movie, and just as good considered separately from the movie. In fact, I bought the soundtrack long before I ever saw the movie because of all the great artists on the album.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Braveheart were also favorites for years but have fallen by the wayside in recent times. Writing this reminds me that I should blow the dust off of them and give them a listen again.
And of course, music from the Star Wars trilogy.
And thanks for reminding about The Time Machine and The Bourne Identity! Those would be worthwhile checking out as well.

And I need to burn parts of the Curse of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango to CD -- they're my favorite game soundtracks ever, not counting portions of the Myst series.
