I asked someone who just finished playing it and they thought it was a great game.
The battles escalate. As you build strength then the monsters get harder.
The music, graphics and storyline are great.

| Deleted User | Hi ConMol,
I've just bought it and started to play the game.
I had great expectations.
I've played for 7 hours now and I must say that it is Eye en ear candy (Dolby surround). The best FMV's I've seen and battlesystem is great to.
But it is very lineair and I haven't done much in 7 hours time. And time is precious to me, so I hope that next 7 hours are going to be better, otherwise I think I'll quit.
Bye.

Realise though that it will take a lot of time to build your character (or get to know that annoying underwaterball game). Also, if you plan to see everything, you'll be stuck behind your TV for a long, long time.
If this is your genre, it's a must have (also, buy a GBA and Golden Sun). My favorite in the series still is part 8 though.

The story is good enough to keep you occupied for awhile and if you do like it you wont have long to wait for the sequel like others. Anyways try renting it first if you are too unsure then you can judge for yourself.

I'm glad you said that about the battles - I usually keep it simple and use just a few tactics but I don't know if it will work here.

I think Camelot based their two games entirely on the FF series, so if you play FF expect about the same as in GS, but now with a better plot and superior graphics (duh, GBA vs PS2/PC ).
And if you liked the summons in GS, you're going to love the Aeons in FFX.
About FF8, it should be available as low budget title near you (both PC and PSX). I picked it up a couple of years ago for about 10 euro (11 dollars).
I would advise you to borrow or rent FFX (or any other from 7-10) first though. I have several friends who didn't like it at all and it's a shame spending 30-40 euro's on the thing and then not like the game.

In its favour FFX has great graphics and sound, and the xp/levelling up system is fairly easy to get to grips with; but - and this is a very big but - the game is very linear compared with 8 and 9

I think you'll be incredibly lucky if you manage to pick up a cheap copy of FF8 for the PC - they regularly sell on ebay for £20 - £40!

I do need to buy those though, but FF 7 is harder to find around here since the PSX sections in stores are slimming down fast. Hmmm... I will look this afternoon before they're gone entirely

(like X is very linear and the battles are drawn out) or because the story is heavier than the game play? I love story and linear doesn't bother me....I found both games at my local cool used games shop 'Dragons Den' FFVIII was $15 and FFX was $25. I just went and bought them - I can always trade them back in. I'm getting a PS2 for mothers day and can't wait to hunker down with an immersive game. I'm afraid if I rented FFX first, I may not be able to get enough hours in in a week to know if I'd like it.

Parts 6 (psx), 7 (psx), 8 (psx, pc), 9 (psx) and 10 (ps2) can also still be bought, I've seen them all lying around in stores. The only one I'm missing is 3 I think. From the backcover, Origins doens't look improved. I'd have to say it's exactly like the original.
So I went to the stores this afternoon, didn't buy any FF games, but ended up with a Zelda GameCube It's pretty cool, also in silver so it matches my SP I'm off to play Zelda...

I liked FFIX more than FFVII, but other than that, I'd agree it's gone downhill. The more I hear of FFX-2, the more I agree!
Anyway, I enjoyed FFX. Good game that every RPG fan should check out. Cool characters, enjoyable story, beautiful graphics, great music and an awesome battlesystem!

About the other FF I especially like FFVI, VII, IX I didn't like FFVIII that much, though it is still a nice game, only not as good as the other ones

Thinking about this, why do most console-rpg's use children (or people who look like children) in them instead of adults? The only exception I can think of right now are FFVIII and FFX.

Rule no. 5 of The Grand List of Role Playing Game Cliches covers this.
Logan's Run Rule
"RPG characters are young. Very young. The average age seems to be 15, unless the character is a decorated and battle-hardened soldier, in which case he might even be as old as 18. Such teenagers often have skills with multiple weapons and magic, years of experience, and never ever worry about their parents telling them to come home from adventuring before bedtime. By contrast, characters more than twenty-two years old will cheerfully refer to themselves as washed-up old fogies and be eager to make room for the younger generation."

| Deleted User | BOy you guys are lucky. I just started playing FF7 and at first was a bit frustriated on the super deformed graphics but as I go into the story, I cared less on the squarish graphics. Most of the people I know around me started playing Final Fantasy from 7 above. I'm looking forward to play the other FF sequals. Anyways, I've never been that sad playing a game before.

Blitzball was a pain so I cheated past it, but even its turn based so with some dedication anyone could get past it. The battles can be very long with the same cinematics but I don't seem to mind. There are some tough characters but I have beaten them all and believe me I'm no pro-rpger. Of course I'm only about 7 hours in. The skills grid - I have no idea how it works so I'm just winging it! which seems to be working. There are save points but they seems to be plentiful enough...save anywhere is better but this isn't so bad. Its so engrossing...I can't remember the last time a story so grabbed me and made me want to play for long hours at a time.
