| Deleted User | I was wandering:
How was your first time like?
I mean: what was your first adventure experience ever, of course
I always end my reply with those four sentences: I'm in a room. Visable items: a door and a rug. >open door <the door is locked> It was an adventure by Scott Adams Adventure International called Pirate adventure, or something like that. A friend of mine showed me that game in his computer, in the early eighties on his ti99 4a. I was completely hooked and bought that game myself.
To try getting the puzzle solved (Rug was nailed to the ground, exemine clothes, there's a hammer, take hammer, remove nails, lift rug, a key is visable, take key, unlock door, open door, go west)was a real thrill, that I will never forget.
After that life has never been the same.
Do I love it.

Status : Online | You know... I don't remember It was probably sometime in late 1980s. It was almost certainly a text adventure. It could have been on a C64 or on a Sinclair ZX Spectrum. And it was nothing very well known.
One early game that I seem to remember was called "Ring of Power" (I think) on a C64. I don't remember what it was about. I do remember going through the game with a hex editor in order to find some clues because back then I didn't even know walkthroughs existed and I couldn't get at them anyway.
I believe my first adventure on a PC was Space Quest IV which I played in early 1992. I remember that the game came on amazing (for me) six floppies and I thought it had stunningly good graphics. And it was fun, even though I could barely understand English. I was hooked
I forgot my sig.

So I went to "Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego?" which I just loved, then I went to GK1 and then I have played every Carmen game before they went Stupid on them.

First screen. I walked towards a flower and typed: "look at flower". Feedback: "Its gorgeous". Then I felt an indescriptible kind of joy running thru my body. I fell in love with adventure games.

Status : Online | I remember it well, my first computer for home was one that I bought dirt cheap because our company was closing down and I bought my first game at a computer show.
The game was Dark Seed 1. It took about a year of playing games off and on and then I was hooked, I now have a house overflowing with games, buying three more this week, always looking for deals on all aspects of my life buying wise so I can support my habit.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

No... Yes... Well, you're a man of the world, squire!
My first time was with Police Quest 1. I remember taking notes at the briefing, when I was talking to witnesses, gathering evidence etc. I was totally hooked, and I played like a proffesional cop. It wasn't until I replayed it a couple of years later it even occured to me that I could let the pretty woman off her speeding ticket...

I was about 8 years old when we first got a computer, and the sound system that came with it came with the CD versions of Monkey Island, and Look (Talkie) as well as some other software. I swared, I played Monkey Island and Look over 100 times each before we finally bought Monkey Island 2. We were walking through our little comuter game store with its selection of about 4 computer games and I pooped my pants when I saw the box.

Status : Online | It was back in 1995, when a friend of mine showed me some of his favourite games: Monkey Island 2, Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis, Day Of The Tentacle etc. but I couldn't really get into them that time - it seemed kinda difficult to understand this "adventure game" genre and I continued playing mostly arcade games. A year later, after having gotten my very first PC, I found a game GOBLIINS 2, that was so damn cool and interesting and I kept playing it. Of course I had to use the solution several times, but it was still the first adventure game I had played and completed. Then I got Day Of The Tentacle, Sam & Max, Monkey Island, Larry 1 etc. that were all amongst my first adventure games.
Anyway, now I've completed 118 adventure games and this genre has remained to be my favourite, thanks to Gobliins 2.

Status : Online | It was a wonderful game (for the C64) with a lot of text and simple pictures (in the 80s). I believe it was called 'The Valkyrie something'. I still can remember a point in the game where you could see that you had to pick up those sticks that you can use for skiing. It took me about a month before I found out that I had to type 'get poles' to get them.
The relief! I will never forget that word anymore.

My friend didn't like it so he game it to me. I was hooked after talking to the Pirates in the Scumm bar, and seeing the "I want to be a fireman" option.
Anyone know any Nympomanics???

Status : Online | Mine was King's Quest 1 in the early 90's. My daughter was just a baby then. I distinctly remember getting up from the PC around 3am because she was crying and trying a little KQ logic to get her to stop:
*checks inventory*
* I have a diaper, a bottle, and a rocking chair*
The diaper change didn't do it; maybe if I combine a diaper change WITH a feeding WHILE rocking, she'll go back to sleep and I can return to Daventry where it's nice and quiet!!
My name is Bethany and I'm the daughter of Gamergal/Michelle.

Adventureplaying changed my my way of reasoning for some small problems in real life!
By the way: it's fun to read others 'first time' experiences!
