Another game I picked up around that time which WAS an adventure game Odyssey: The Quest for Ulysses - which SUCKED. I had a string of around 7-10 bad games in a row from DreamCatcher.
However, since I am such a sucker for punishment, I'm going to snatch up Darkfall. If this sucks, you can bet I'll be back in here going ballistic!!

| Deleted User | I hated Odyssey- for me, it is among the worst games I have ever played. I stopped playing after a few days from sheer frustration at how idiotic the game was. Like Grim Fandango, it had an incredibly bad interface, but unlike Grim Fandango it was mediocre at best in every other respect so altogether it was a horrible game. From what I've heard of Dark Fall it is a much better game. It has already been published independently so you will be able to read reviews of it already.

I am currently half-way through it and so far it isn't too bad. My only gripe is that everytime I pick up something, it seems like 90% of the time it involves reading a lot of text. Me and my lady friend keep letting out an, "awww, geez..." in sync each time this happens and that's a LOT!!
I understand that the author wants to enrich the characters by giving little stories behind each one, but I think a little variety is in order.
Mind you, I am not done and maybe it will pick up some. We have explored every room but two or three that are locked.
It does have one thing going for it, it's the first adventure game in my last 6-7 DreamCatcher purchases that I haven't quit after playing an hour in digust wishing I not only had my money back, but also the hour of my life that was just lost.

Certainly down there at the bottom of my list with another Cryo - Atlantis: The Lost Tales as well as 9 and The City of Lost Children.
I am greatly looking forward to The Adventure Company's offerings this fall! These new games may convert you yet jugi!

I'm also curious about Cypher because Traitor's Gate seemed like a great idea which was simply executed a bit haphazardly. Omega Stone wasn't a bad release either, it's just not really my style. Still, as of right now, I hold Syberia as their only real triumph.

Status : Online | How much of the thread did you read? I simply presented a controversial opinion. In fact, my first post was actually in the form of a QUESTION. I was not this one who made it personal and started with the attacks.
Also, this thread seems to have reached a peaceful harmony over the last few weeks. The timing of your post is a little bizzare. Hell, my last post was about how the future of the Adventure Company is looking pretty good, although they still have their share of Egypt/Atlantis crapola coming out.

I am as "real" as it gets. I don't water down my opinions and I defend them fervently.

I don't understand any of your three posts on this thread. I think you're mad at Juji about something.

Atlantis was stupid. It made no sense. In its defense, it has pretty pictures.

Now, I'm...ummmm...errrrr......ehhhhh....kinda enjoying myself over here with the DarkFall thing....
There is one MAJOR thing in DarkFall that is different from the other games which make it far superior from other DreamCatcher games. This has been my pet peave for a LONG time, but here's the deal - you can actually move on!
Wow! What a concept! Finally a game that does it right! I HATE playing a game and after visiting 3-5 areas, you can't do anything else until you solve a puzzle. Now, DarkFall lets you go ANYWHERE. You run into a puzzle that you can't handle at the moment? No problem, do some more exploring. I can't believe it took this long for someone to get it right.
I'm proud to say that we have yet to run for a walkthrough and we're nearly finished with it. All the boxes are open, etc. and all the clues were brilliantly placed and laid out. Some were just plain cool.
Yep, this game rocks...despite the excessive amount of reading at times!!

You're telling me to be "real" but "real" is subjective? Now you're just confusing me.

I am not a big fan of most of the Dreamcatcher Games but I do respect them as a publisher. I trust them...when they put out a press release, such as Black Mirror, immediately there is a web page for the game on their site. I wish they picked up all the titles because I could follow their progress and know where they stand.
Not so for the other adventure game publishers - GotGame and TriSynergy bless their souls. TimeGuard just disappeared from GotGames' web page and TriSynergy has zippo info on Runaway or Midnight Nowhere (Gamespot reported them as publisher).

I meant go to another thread, not board :-[
BTW, DarkFall is complete over here and it kicked butt the whole way! Scariest game? No. Best game? No. Well worth the time and money invested? Hell yes.
Two or three more good ones like this being released this year and DreamCatcher will have redeemed themselves...Damn, I hope Jack the Ripper and the Black Mirror are this good...

However, be a little more patient as there are a number of titles coming out over the next year (need I say Broken Sword 3- to be published by the said Adventure company). At last there is a resurgence in this genre we all love. And at least Dreamcather/Adventure company has maintained confidence in the genre. I remeber a couple of yers ago when there there about 3 adventuregames made a year...and they sucked!

| Deleted User | You obviously have been playing different games than the rest of the forum for the past 7 years. Are you saying there have been no good games from 1997 to now? Broken Sword 2? GK3? The Longest Journey? Riven? Zork Grand Inquisitor? Grim Fandango? Sanitarium? Let's face it, there have been plenty of good games in the past 7 years. The adventure genre never died.

Kevin - Have you tried any of these that Fickfack and I mentioned? I'm sure that there are others we've missed and some we've included that others may dispute. But still....... Perhaps not a veritible avalanche of excellent games but I've found enough great ones each year to keep me busy AND happy.
I do agree with you that this fall appears to have a bumper crop of potentially excellent games being released.
