I have decided to play The Longest Journey again, and loaded it up on my XP SP3 set up with Nvida 9600 card and the FMV was all messed up April did not show, in fact none of the animated figures showed. Turned out i had to add a Direct X section to the Preferences ini..
here is the corrected portion of the ini in case anyone else has this problem..
Add to Original FunCom DVD version:..to Prefernces ini located in game directory...
[DirectX] GfxDriver=display int_BitDepth=32 bool_IsDoubleBuffer=0 bool_UseHardware=0 bool_StartFullscreen=1 bool_ForceSingleBuffer=1 bool_AllowUseWBuffer=0
if you use the GOG versoin, you will have to find the prefernces ini located here:
Documents and Settings/User Name/Application Data/The Longest Journey...
and on the Preferences ini you will need to add:
[DirectX] GfxDriver=display int_BitDepth=32 bool_IsDoubleBuffer=0 bool_UseHardware=0 bool_StartFullscreen=1 bool_ForceSingleBuffer=1
now for another problem....GOG changed the wonderful original font used for the subtitles text, they are rendered beautifully by the original game, FunCom and Ragnar designed a specail variant of some normal fonts and it is very readable and fun, and has a nice flair to it. For some reason the people at GOG changed that, and used a boring Garamond script that is ugly and totally out of tune with the game.
I was not able to change it back, i dont know the solution yet, just a warning. It is much better to use the original version of the game, for this reason, because the text is actually quite important when you are follwoing a long dialogue.
anyway, that seems to be the main problems to fix. I will report if there are more.
I am warming up for Ragnar's new Dreamfall Chapters, i plan to play TLJ and then Dreamfall, and by then we will have news of the new portions of the story to be released, i beleive he plans to release them in secitons or chapters, or Episodes.
Here is the original text format and April just starting on her journey...
