Status : Offline | I am very saddened to hear that Randy has lost his long and hard fought battle with cancer. He was a beacon for adventure games and adventure gamers. I have many happy memories of hanging out on this board for hours at a time, months on end during the "golden days/years". Hi Senne, Dom, Caroline, Agust, Aya, Val, Len, Karla, and all the rest of the "old timers"!
My thoughts and prayers are with Randy's family and the many friends he left behind. While I never met Randy in person, I had several phone conversations and many emails with him during the time I was very involved with the forum. His enthusiasm for the genre has carried it through some bleak times.
I am not on facebook, but just by chance I checked in today to see what was happening with some new games I have been following. I am glad I did so I could offer some small support. Sorry it is such a sad occasion.
Still adventuring after all these years!
Patiently awaiting The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, and Bracken Tor...
... and Asylum if it's not tooooo scary... Last edited by adventuredog : 11 NOV 2012 7:14pm

Because of Randy ...
We could all find something to finish that sentence.
Because of Randy, I bought a game that was only available in Europe at the time, thanks to his praises of how good a game it was, and how it needed to be published in the U.S. for others to be able to play it. You may have heard of the game: The Longest Journey.
Because of Randy, I also had many fine conversations on this board with many of you fine people, regarding the very fine adventure games Randy was helping to promote, or had been promoted, and we had already played them.
A few months after I took on the role of updating the Schedule of Upcoming Releases, Randy wanted to call me and talk to me about something JA-related. He never said what it was, specificially, and I never got that call. To this day, I wonder what it was about. Regardless, I was still able to be a part of JA, which is very cool.

I remember that. Is the address still up? Maybe we could send sympathy cards this time to Randy's family.

******** I made *ROUGH* (only) count around midday (here) today, Monday 12 November 2012. ******** Apparently to date 33 DIFFERENT folk have mourned the passing of Randy (a few more than once) ! ******** Not surprisingly, 26 of these are REALLY old timers i.e. registering approx. some 8 to 10 years ago and who 'knew' Randy to a greater or lesser degree – some EXTREMELY 'intimately' !! ******** Nearly all of the remaining 7 registered a few years ago and before Randy was forced by his severe illness to participate much less in Just Adventure – but still kept struggling on. All of these (less maybe one) joined well before JA changed hands ! ******** As far as I am aware, of the 26 old timers, just over half (roughly 15) no logger post at all on JA or maybe once in a blue moon when something REALLY extraordinary occurs --- such as this sad occasion of Randy's death. I seem to remember that some Left the Forums or stopped posting some while before Randy left & the new Just Adventure was started nearly a year go now !!! ******** The remaining veterans still continue posting – some more & some less naturally !!

As on and off lurker and very ocasional poster I didn't have contact with him like other users, but I've read his reviews, columns and editorials, in fact, I can't be sure, but I think I discovered JA because of one of his works.
His funny review of Bloodrayne still hangs on my mind, since it was the first time ever I remember laughing so much, caused by a review of a game!
Rest in peace Randy.

Status : Offline | I just heard the sad news. I was shocked. What a loss. I used to read Just Adventure all the time in the early 2000s. I've always liked Randy's outspoken, opinionated, and unapologetically honest writing style. Every time I went to the site, the first thing I'd do was see what that crazy guy had just written. And now, I won't be able to enjoy his writing again.
Thank you, Randy. May you rest in peace.

Status : Offline | This is such sad news. I haven't visited these boards in a long time, so I had no idea how critical Randy's health was. I remember how happy I was when I found this place online, finally somewhere where I could share my experiences about adventure games, and most of all, have so much fun spending time here. I only exchanged a few emails back in the day with Randy, and got to know him a little bit as the warm and friendly person he was. They also showed his passion and love for adventure games and this website, a passion that made this place bloom, and I owe him big time for providing me with a fun place to be when things in my personal life were falling apart. I hope he has found peace now and my best wishes go out to his family and anyone here who was close to him.

When I think of Randy, I think of 2003 when I was playing The Longest Journey and Syberia and Riven. I remember how I visited the Just Adventure forum many times each day, and how I enjoyed reading everyone’s posts, especially, Randy’s posts. Sometimes he would even comment on something I had posted. He had a passion for adventure games, and it was wonderful to be a part of it at that point in time. It was an exciting time and Randy was a big part of it to me. I don’t know why, but whenever I replay The Longest Journey, I think of Randy. I think it may be because he wrote a review on the game. But, really I don’t remember why. I just know that when I play these older adventure games, I always think of his daily posts on this forum, and the excitement of that time period.
I mis all of it: those years when adventure games were so exciting, and Randy’s passion for those games.

Status : Offline | I was really shocked and sad to learn that Randy Sluganski died. He will be greatly missed. If I remember correctly we both joined JA about the same time (thats us old timers) we liked the same games and I always trusted his reviews. My deepest condolances to his family and friend.
Sincerely,
Debs
