I am deeply sorry to let you know that our friend Randy Sluganski died on Tuesday morning, November 6.

Randy was a remarkable guy.  I've never known anyone remotely like him.  His fierce love of the adventure genre changed the industry.

I'm very lucky to have had Randy as a friend.  The times he came out to Hollywood and stayed with me for E3 week provided some of the most fun I've ever had.

I last saw him in Pittsburgh in the Spring of 2011, when he showed me his awe-inspiring adventure game collection!

I'm glad I knew him.

I'm sure you will join me in keeping his wife Sandy and his children in our thoughts.

Remember, procrastinate now.  Don't put it off!!

I am at a loss for words.... This is really sad news... He will be sorely missed...

RIP, without Randy this site wouldn't have been the great place it is.  I did not know him as well as some of you but I always got the impression that this site meant a great deal to him as well as the people that helped run it.  Of all the places on the web he helped make JA feel like a home and will be missed.

Best wishes to his family and friends.

That is sad news.

Just Adventure was the first ever forum I joined. A lot of that was due to Randy and his enthusiasm for the genre. He built the old website into one of the premier websites for Adventure Gaming with over a million visitors. Many a happy day was spend on that site talking to Randy and everyone else.

The site was never the same when he wasn't around in his fight with his illness.

I wish I could say that that site will carry on his legacy for years to come, but at least he will always live in our memories and on the Waybackmachine.

He showed such fighting spirit when he got sick... he vowed not to let it get him down.  Some part of me kept hoping he would recover... this is terrible..  very hard to accept

Guys, my heart is literally breaking.  Sobbing like a baby here. It's like the end of an era.   I hope Karla is ok.

I'm not okay, actually. I've been sobbing right along with you. That's all I'm able to say right now.

I don't know what to say, as mere words seem inadequate here. Shocking, and heart wrenching to hear, and he will be definitely be missed. My sympathies to his family, and I know they will be in all our thoughts.

This is very tough on his family and my sympathies go out to them.  Remember how Randy rallied us all to send postcards to his son to keep his spirits up.   He made this site a fun place for a diverse group of people to hang out and I have loved this space.

This is an absolutely magnificent recording of Mozart's Requiem, and I feel I must share it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi8vJ_lMxQI

Verdi's Requiem is  softer, slower, sadder, less dramatic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsZEv7kAllo

I'm playing them both in honor of Randy.

And for Randy's family.  May they have the strength to cope with this.  It must have been really hard for them to witness Randy's struggle, and my heart goes out to them.

Like many of you, Just Adventure was my first forum and the place where I made most cybernetic friends. I have very fond memories of the so-called "golden years" here in JA. Back then it was THE spot to discuss old and new adventures alike. Some legendary people passed through this forum.

Randy himself was a guru of the genre and had an inspiring passion for adventures. Though I never personally met him, I held copious correspondence with him over many years. We became good friends, he was always encouraging me to write about adventures and eventually provided valuable and insightful advice on the industry. Scratches owes a lot to him.

He will be sorely missed. It's safe to say that the entire adventure community is in debt with him. In fact, when the genre had literally stalled he was a crucial figure that kept the flame alive. Things might be completely different without him these days.

Here's to Randy and the incredible community he gave shape and maintained with unparalleled passion.

I am so sorry to hear this news, Randy made this wonderful forum and site happen and he kept the light alive for Adventure games with his own indominable spirit. I will miss him..even tho he had to leave us here for a while already...  it is hard to believe he is not there somehwere..but I know he is, his spirit will be here and there and whereever his loved ones are.

Our time here on this earth is short, too short, but he brought fun and enjoyment to so many and made it possible for us to be a wider family of enjoyment so lets keep that spiriit going in his memory and honour..and i am indeed sorry for those who were close to him...

The change we all go thru from this plane to the next ..it is a hard one for all of us both those who leave and those who stay..but it does let us leave behind troubles and pains..and lets the spirit fly free...and surely the memory and the good that is Randy will always be with those who loved and knew him. I am sure his spirit will be here too....

i am sorry.

hugs to all and to his family.

Ave Randy.. Fare Well.

It's been many, many years since I last frequented these boards - it's all new and shiny since the last time I visited - but I heard the news on Facebook and just wanted to offer my condolences and share my thoughts about Randy. Without him I wouldn't have had an ever increasing passion for adventure gaming and met some wonderful people who are still good friends, both online from these boards and then in person. I'm very sorry to hear this news. Best wishes to the adventure community, and "hey" to any who remember me from the old days of yore.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Randy's passing.

We can never thank him enough for creating this haven from web madness and the diverse global community it spawned.

Goodbye old friend and may you rest in peace.
