I installed GK 1 in pure DOS.  Everything went fine, but when I enter cd c:\sierra\gkcd\gkcd at the C: prompt, it says that it can't find the disc in the drive.  I know the game works because I played it before.  I don't remember having this problem either.  Can you help me out? :-[

at the C:\ prompt try

cd sierra\gkcd\gkcd (without the c:\ that is)

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Or run sierra.exe directly from the GKCD directory.

Advanced tip: when I was playing GK1 recently, my bloody stupid 48x (or whatever it is) DVD-ROM was driving me crazy because it was constantly spinning up and down, slowing down the game considerably and it was generally a huge nuisance.

So I went and copied the relevant directories off the CD to the harddrive, edited RESOURCE.CFG to point to harddrive and voila, I had HD-only version of GK1, no CD even required!

Here's what my RESOURCE.CFG looks like (the last few lines):

audio=C:\SIERRA\GKCD
:\gkcd\sfx
:\gkcd\patches
:\gkcd\aud
sync=D:\gkcd\aud
movieDir=D:\gkcd\seq
patchDir=C:\SIERRA\GKCD
:\gkcd\patches
audiosize=63k

C:\SIERRA\GKCD is where GK1 is installed. D:\GKCD is my "virtual CD" directory. E:, my CD-ROM, is not even listed. For reference, I copied the AUD, PATCHES, SEQ and SFX directories from the CD, nothing else.
I forgot my sig.

Got it running.  I uninstalled and re-installed in windows instead of DOS and it runs fine.  Go figure.  I could've sworn I played it in DOS the first time.
