Within a few hours of being up they are already over 200k, with a goal of 1.1 million.

For those that do not know, Obsidian Entertainment is made up of a lot of rpg veterans, from Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, Josh Sawyer, etc  Who worked on games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Plancescape Torment, and more recently Fallout: New Vegas.

They want to return to a more old school isometeric party-based rpg game, with their own IP which allows them free reign to do what they want (they couldn't do this in any other game, as all were based on someone else's IP).  They want to make it a more mature game (M rating for sure) on top of this, which is usually frowned upon for many IP's.

I think it will easily hit the goal, and perhaps go over. I have to say ever since Dragon Age: Origins I have wanted a new party-based rpg with the kind of more mature/deep character interaction which it had , and since DA:II was such a failure in regards to that style of gameplay (IE removing choices to build party members, tactical combat that flew out the window, etc) I thought we'd probably not see another AAA backed game in that style for some time.

Thankfully I was wrong and hopefully this one turns out good.

I just hope they hire some really really good Q&A people, while most Obsidian games have great writing, characters, storylines, they are known to be a bit buggy.

hmmm, you read my mind

So as i wrote in my own topic on this, which i've deleted again, i lost interest at " This is an Isometric RPG...."

I'd wish Obsidian would make another Fallout NV or Alpha Protocol, i can't imagine they would be such magnificent RPG's if they'd be isometric.

Why did you lose interest at isometeric?

Isometeric has it's uses. It allows you to see your entire party/enemies at once, while also having a part in tactical combat syle of gameplay.

Perhaps it will be allowed for you to bring it more over the shoulder like in Dragon Age a bit.

For me it completely kills all immersion, which is essential for an RPG game.

Isometric had it's use when PC weren't powerlful enough to recreate realistic game worlds.

A castle or a monster just doesn't look as impressive in Isometric view as it does in Real 3D.

What makes Alpha Protocol, Assassin's Creed, The Witcher 2 or Mass Effect so special are it's cinematic camera movements, you get the feeling that you're actually taking part in the action. Such things are impossible with isometric views.

Ofcourse it's better for tactical RPG's, but i'm not interested in that (because i suck at it ), i just hack and smash my way through the game. I'm much more interested in the storylines and exploration.

This is basically the reason why i never bothered playing RPG before they became true 3D

PS: wait till ChrisGer or Trav sees this, they'll surely agree with me on this

While I do agree that the isometric perspective is not the best for immersion, it is better for gameplay, if you want to create a party based game where you have direct control over several party members. Baldur's Gate was easier to control than Dragon Age (even if Dragon Age did a good job at making things playable).

This game is on track to become one of hte biggest/fastest games on KS to reach it's goal.

in a little over a day it's almost raised the full 1.1 million goal and if the pace keeps up (plus also usually at the end of a kickstarter there's a surge for people that were holding out to pledge until the last moment) it will blow past it.

I can definitely see this game beating out Tim Schafer's  kickstarter.
