Status : Offline | You don't say what kind of tomato it is. I read this morning that the drought has devastated the American harvest this year so Britain's basic staples such as bread and pasta will rise. So it must be bad for you guys.

It's a Brandywine. The other two varieties I'm growing are Roma (plum) and cherry.

I knew that. Just like my face is on one side, and my bottom is on the other.
Nevertheless, it's a real live home-grown tomato! With a bit of trimming, I would eat that bulbous booger in a heartbeat. On a couple of pieces of good bread with a schmear of smoked paprika or garlic aioli mayonnaise, some watercress or arugula (roquette) leaves, and a dash of fresh black pepper.
What you have there is a classic "Farmer's Tomato". It would be eaten by the grower and/or his or her family and not be put on display in the roadside produce bin for sale alongside the "prettier" tomatoes.
Anyway... imperfection almost always tastes better. It isn't how one looks, it's how one tastes.
