Picked it up last night, played thru the first case, which is really just a tutorial to get you acclimated to the game.

The most obvious comparison that everyone wants to make it to the Law & Order game, which makes sense. In my humble opinion, CSI is heads above L&O. I enjoyed L&O, but I couldn't help but feel it was rushed. It just didn't feel solid to me, there was so much potential that was not used. With CSI, I actually feel like time was taken to get things right. There is a lot more to do, and it is much more streamlined.

The game starts out with an excellent, spoken tutorial that guides you thru the basic mechanics. Traveling, using the various tools, collecting and processing evidence, etc. Grissom also chimes in along with the narrator to offer some helpful advice. It really shows that they took time with this game here, rather than rushing a license.

The graphics are decent. The interface graphics are nicely done, such as the evidence menu, the various tools, etc. The navigation screen and characters also look good, but I do find them a bit grainy. I'd blame this on the games fixed resolution, which I THINK is 800x600. I'll confirm later tonight. It certainly looks better than L&O. The ability to up the resolution would have been nice, but it's really a minor niggle.

The gameplay, so far, is exactly what I hoped for. Investigate a crime scene, interrogate suspects, collect evidence, etc. Just like the show, it's all there. Once you have collected something, you can take it to the lab to match prints, run tests, etc. It actually makes me feel like I am 'detecting.' Add to the fact the cast members did the voices, and it really feels like the show. I smiled more than once when I would find a piece of crucial evidence, and Grissom would chime in with one of his trademarked observations.

You can ask for hints from your partner if you get stuck, but it does take points off your overall evaluation in the end. There are 5 cases, including the tutorial case.

Overall, this game is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. I'll post more non-spoiler thoughts as I go, and will be glad to answer any questions, based on what I've seen.

Addition The game comes on 3 cd's, and the full install is 1.5 gigs. The manual is a small jewel case style with a small amount of info. You do not need the cd's in the drive to play!

Hhhmmm :-/. You can take hints from your partner?! I am not sure i am going to enjoy this one. I don't like hints and walkthroughs in adventure games, i think it's like cheating.
Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

You don't have to take the hints if you don't want to. It's just a matter of not asking.

I should have clarified. You have to click on your partner to initiate dialog, and then you have the option to ask for advice.

Deleted UserThis games sounds great. Where's the official website?

By the way, is there a running storyline between the cases? If not, my opinion is slightly blemished, as it'd be nice to have some cohesion betwixt them.

(I knew I could fit in betwixt somewhere!)

I finished the second case tonight, and am starting to wonder if it's going to be over WAY to quickly....

As for the cases being connected.....spoiler space....

Thanks Mike for your impressions.  I am looking forward even more than before to play the game.

Still adventuring after all these years!

Patiently awaiting The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, and Bracken Tor...

... and Asylum if it's not tooooo scary...
