I know everyone here has probably already played this but as I just finished it this morning I thought I'd add my opinion here.

Me and TLJ did not get off to a good start - I first installed it on my Windows 95 PC, but the characters were floating clothes (no bodies) and the s-sound w-would st-tutter all the time. So, off that PC and up to the XP PC. Although the installation took aaages, I had no further problems with the game apart from three crashes, one which I never fixed but was able to work around, and two which were fixed by changing the graphics settings. These were rather frustrating, and made me somewhat on edge all the time I was playing in case something else went wrong.

The story of the game was great, although a little confusing - I often forgot what stone or jewel or disc I was meant to be retreiving. I had false hopes about the length of the game - although there are 13 chapters, many were very short. Still a long game though, and I only finished it so quickly because I played so often! The long dialogues did not bother me at all, and neither did the language - although as I often had a 3 year old watching me, I had to cough loudly in some scenes, especially with Burns Flipper!

The puzzles were fairly simple, but for me that was a good point. Example - you are given a spear, and told to kill a monster with it. So you take the spear, kill the monster - that's it. In other games the monster would break the spear and you would have to fashion some sort of device which lifted the monster into the air where it would hang, then you would have to anger another character to get them to unleash their killer ray which would kill the monster. Or something like that - anyway, I preferred the straightfoward tasks that this game had.

The graphics were good but could have been a lot better - often I couldn't make out people's faces properly, and the invisible inventory objects were annoying. This hardly detracted from my experience at all, however. The cut scenes would have been great but on my PC they would freeze every so often and the CD would have to make a big noise to get them going again (sorry for the completely not technical explanation!).

The sounds and voice acting were very good, especially April. Some were not great but there weren't any bad voices. The only problem, which was actually quite funny, was that it was obvious when characters were voiced by the same person - listen to Fiona and Tun Liec and then try and tell which is which!

As I said, the story was great although at a point near the end it seemed like everyone was dying. This added to the drama but it seemed a bit odd when there was death after death after death. I enjoyed the twists and turns at the end, and was satisfied with the ending, although I'd have liked to have known what happened to some of the other main characters.

Overall, this was a fantastic game, with a few small flaws, but none that were big enough to stop me enjoying the game. I already miss the game, and hope there will be a TLJ2! 9/10

Hi FlameBoy,

Thank you for adding your review to our forum.  I'm new to adventures, and as such, read reviews (especially on this site) with great relish.  If I could make just one request, it would be that you omit any potential spoilers from your review.  I haven't played TLJ yet, and was not aware that it feels like everyone is dying near the end.  I would have liked to have not known that until I played the game myself.

I look forward to your next review

Hi all,
I've seen spoilers handled by putting in the word "SPOILERS", in all caps, then say the spoiler, and at the end, do "END SPOILERS".  You can also space down if you want, so it's easy for people to skip over it.

In a game that's been out for awhile, it's hard to talk about a game without using spoilers.  That's how I've seen it handed, both in discussion threads, and in review threads.

Just a thought.
Regards, mszv

It's true that talking about a game without spoilers isn't easy.  Truth be told, I haven't really come across a spoiler in any review I've read, but I am careful to avoid threads (such as the "Greatest gaming moment" thread over in the discussion forum) that may contain spoilers.  And yes, spoiler space is always appreciated.  However, there is only when the spoiler is intentional (obviously).  I don't think FlameBoy meant it.

FlameBoy, no apology necessary, these things are sometimes inevitable.  No harm done

Deleted UserSnore.

The longest journey was too long, due to the endless chatter of idiotic back and forths in conversation threads. Other than that, I liked it, but it is too chatty for me. I had to turn off the sound and right clicked through all the endless, mindless banter. If you have diarreah mouth, this is your game, for sure!

Finished TLJ about three weeks ago and enjoyed it, but I will have to somewhat agree with Daryl about the dialogue. While some of the dialogue is important to pick up some clue as to what to do next, an inordinate amount was just prattle and did not increase my appreciation for the story (as it should)...it bored me. Caught myself a couple of times zipping on to the next subject. Only once or twice did I miss a clue in the dialogue, but I was able to get by without it anyway.

Sorry you had so much problem with the graphics, FlameBoy--I've found that the "Minimum System Requirements" on most games to be a crock. Yeah, it MIGHT install and MIGHT even begin to play, but you have a 95% chance that it WILL poop out on you. Rule of thumb for me: Take the Minimum and mulitply everything by 2 or 3 and then you'll have a better idea what you need to actually play the game with little or no glitches.

Have to say the long dialogue only bothered me twice - first time was the priests long story, as I was listening to that at 1am I found it hard to stay awake! Second time was the Alatiens tales, as I had to go quickly and though "oh, I'll just talk to one more person" Big mistake!
