The Escapist has reported on the release of a new game called Anna, which appears to be a real-time 3D exploration-based horror game.
Perhaps most interestingly, the trailer and article claim that Anna will pay attention to what the player does, what the player ignores and what the player is afraid of, and adjust the game accordingly. Show fear at the sight of a symbol, and you may find it popping up more often, for example.
Interesting - anyone know exactly how this works, that is, if Anna is the MC in a game, how would she know your responses? Is is based on your KB or mouse-clicking choices or what?

I won't complain if linear games become a thing of the past
I'll sure check this out

You can always buy a copy from our shop or download a free trial here to check it out for yourself.
Ah, my apologies for not having noticed! I think that I checked the news for a story on it, but confess that I don't often look at the store these days (in part because money is a significant issue for me at the moment, I fear).

I don't claim to know how it works, but I imagine that it's a matter of recording and analysing the player's movements and clicks. To conjecture, the player spending a long time pointed at an object might be taken to indicate interest, while avoidance of pointing at an object, outright turning and moving away or keeping other objects between the player and the object might be taken to indicate fear.
In other words, my guess is that it monitor's the player's actions - movements, time spent in areas or looking in the direction of objects, etc. - and interprets them according to built-in logic.
(I honestly don't know whether a character named "Anna" appears or is mentioned in the game; it seems likely, given the title and marketing, but I don't know much about the game's story, I fear.)

For myself, I'd like to see both - linear games can be fun as well, but I would like to see more dynamism in adventure games. In fact, I mean to start a thread related to that, based on something else posted on The Escapist recently...
MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

If this happens, I think I might stop buying all these latest releases and dive into my old games/new releses currently residing at our house/my HDD and play these. Bigger escuse to overcome all the reasons that I cannot drive to the local coffee shops with laptops in order to game on the go.
