I'm not looking for help; I'd just like to share something.

When I received a complementary season pass for all five episodes of The Walking Dead on Steam, I'd never used them before. There was something about them that just didn't sit right with me.

But I wanted to play TWD so I threw caution to the wind and signed up. I was able to install and play the first chapter of the game with no problem.

Then came Chapter 2, which was released last Friday, June 29th. I've had nothing *but* problems with it. I've also discovered that the support part of the Steam website is a confusing mess.

I've been back-and-forth and back-and-forth with Steam support and have practically turned my computer inside-out for them. I still don't have Chapter 2.

So Steam sent me to Telltale. I've never had any dealings with them, either. They're not responding. Someone posted the same problem I'm having two days before I made my post. They're not responding to him, either.

I told Steam that Telltale is unresponsive. They told me to go back to Telltale.

Meanwhile, I was supposed to obtain The Dark Eye from Steam and review it for JA. After a 14-hour download the game showed as "ready to play." When I tried to launch it, I got "game not available." I continued to get it despite Steam support telling me to do this, that and the other.

I asked Shane to assign the review to someone else, which he did. It's a good thing, too. The Dark Eye remains unavailable to me.

So let's see...I have a complete version of one "ready to play" game that I'll never be able to play, and there are four episodes of another game I'll apparently never be able to install, much less play.

I don't really care about The Dark Eye since I'm not reviewing it, but it's a shame about The Walking Dead. I think Episode 1 is really impressive. At least I have that one and can play it.

I suggest that anyone who's never used Steam or Telltale approach them, especially Steam, with caution. You could end up in a big jackpot.

Needless to say I'm finished with both Steam and Telltale.

I myself have only ever had one problem with steam, my copy of commandos 3 wouldn't work. I'd pick steam over EA any day of the week though :-)

I've never used Steam. When it first came out, I was turned off by how their software had to be running in the background while you played your game. At the time, this was 10% of your CPU, though it's probably less today now that CPU's are so much faster. I did, and still do consider it intrusive.

As for Telltale, I stopped buying from them after I bought a disc version of Wallace & Gromit and it turned out to have the same online authentication as the download version. Since their earlier games had used disc-based authentication on the physical version, I considered it a bait and switch and stopped buying their games. I never played their version of Wallace & Gromit, though I recently bought it from GOG, where it is DRM-free.

"big jackpot"? What do you mean, Karla?   I always though it was when you win a lot of money such as hitting the state lottery?

Me, I've always stayed away from Steam and Telltale. Thanks for the warning, Karla.

The way I used it, "jackpot" is slang for a bad situation where someone is taken advantage of or caught unawares.

I'd much prefer winning a lot of money.

I have bought every game Telltale has made and downloaded countless games from Steam.

Never once had an issue.

So maybe the problem is at your end.
