My wife says that I never miss a day without at least ONE cliché !
The above is one I had never heard during my childhood, youth, or early adulthood in England. I do not know its origin, but I assume it means "All the best" !!
It was a favorite saying of a wonderful old lady called Mr4s. Gottschalk.
We became friendly with her in Haifa in 1949 when we first arrived in Israel.
She was already elderly and had lived here for many years during the British Mandatory rule here in what was then called Palestine.
She was a real true blue blooded Brit, born and bred in the UK and was a direct descendent of Lord Horatio Nelson (or so we understood),
She was one of those down to earth ladies with tons of charisma and always spoke her mind – she was delight and a breath of fresh air !
She was married to her very opposite – Dr. Gottshalk, a brilliantly intellectual solicitor.
He had immigrated to the then Palestine from Berlin shortly after Hitler came to power in 1933 and started (only in a comparatively tiny way at the beginning)n his barbaric persecution of the Jews.
They had 2 sons born in Haifa who we have lost touch with – if they are still alive, they must be close to 80 y.o. now.
One became an "Egged" bus driver – an extremely worthy job in those far off days – and still respected in these capitalistic times today !!
SO – Once again, good luck and "More power to your elbow !!

Part of my role is to interact with you guys to see what you want and need, then I go to the powers that are and advocate for you. So please always feel free to PM me or just post me in the forum. If you want polls or want to know something specific, or you just want to complain and feel like your not being heard elsewhere, that's all in my duties. So please utelise me, it's job security. The more you give me the more I can justify my role.
On a side note obviously I am a huge running fanatic, any others out there that like to lace up and hit the pavement?

I was a runner for about 15 years (in my mid-20s to nearly 40). I never did a marathon, but it kept me trim, and I even won a bronze once in a local 3-miler. Unfortunately, dealing with family and work problems got me out of the habit for several years, and then, because of the pounding, I decided that walking is more my speed.
Do you play adventure games? Which ones do you like?

I have played alot of them, they aren't my only genre of game, but I loved Edna and Harvey and I am psyched for the new itle comming out from daedalic. In fact I was in the production office today and I got a look at the trailer and it looks great. I loved Corrosion: Cold Winter Waiting and I must admit it did scare me a bit even. So what do you enjoy game wise? Also what concerns do you guys have about the site, the store, the games, etc?

What a nice change !!
My memory is not too good ----------.
But I have been 'associated' with JA (WELL before it became JA+) for at least a dozen years and registered about 10 years ago.
I have followed the forums during the whole of that period and I don't think there has ever been a topic about just **RUNNING** - please correct me if I'm wrong.
There were certainly threads about soccer, FIFA, World Cup, etc. and maybe tennis &/or Olympics – but just running for pure pleasure & fitness and TRUE sport, I DO NOT REMEMBER !!
Incidentally what used to be a **REAL SPORT** in my youth, i.e. soccer, has turned into tycoon-like big business with the buying & selling for multiple millions of players, managers, teams etc. – what a great pity, and loss !
N.B. Tonight is European Cup Finals Spain versus Italy !
When I was at school and aged about 16 – evacuated to a town called Wellingborough (in Northamptonshire) we had what was called "Cross country running:. I don’t remember how many miles long the course was – but quite a few.
It was fairly rough going, across ploughed fields, through hedges, in or around shallow pods, sandy patches, and so on – not easy going.
I NEVER came in first but IIRC I used to come in between 3rd & 4th place .
I am ashamed to say that in later life I only ran to catch a departing bus or train or whatever.
But our oldest grandchild who got married aged 35 a little over a year ago and is expecting her first baby (a boy) literally any day now, is married to a guy who participates in an all the local marathons here of which there are several ranging from about 20 20 60 kilometers!!
I think he is also in his mid 30's and doesn't do it to win but for the enjoymment & challenge and to keep physically fit !
Needless to say, I DO NOT accompany him !!!

Status : Offline | I just love doing it. Once you get past the "wall" and ge the endorphins kicking around your brain it's great. In fact I usually run about 6-10 miles. It's a great feeling and gets my day off to a great start. I have myself run to catch the occasional bus or train. LOL. I'm also into the whole barefoot scene, which is really great stuff and has improved my speed, distance and recovery greatly. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

OBoy -I wasn't kidding in my previous post - although my granddaughter *WAS* (poor pun !?!) - SEE THE LINK ABOVE !
She was 4 days 'late' and getting a bit fed up but had a straightforward birth (3.1 kilograms) at 15:00 local time today (2nd July 2012)
Photo taken with my son;s mobile phone when he was 4 hours old,
So now we have 2 great grandchildren - AVIV (Meaning the season 'spring' - reverse = VIVA) she is now a little over 4 years old, and (no name yet ...that I know of) - he is less than one day old !!!

We immigrated from England to Israel in 1949 - a year after the British Mandate ended & we were
declered a State by the United Nations !
I was 24 and had no relatives here and Sylvia (my wife) was 19 and had an idealistic sister living on a kibbutz.
The country was in a shockingly primitive condition at the time, and at first our 'house' was a tent alongside the Jordan river during the coldest winter in living memory !! There was next to no food availale etc. - I remember once being able to buy a single BEAUTIFUL cauliflower and that alone (with salt) was our dinner for the day- how things hav3 changed during the past 63 years - food of every type imaginable is now grown due to local agriculture & farming !!!
It was fairly tough and lonely without any family or roots or even language(the early American pioneers must have felt even more so!) - but together with fiends & acquaintances we managed.
And as you said - we are now quite a *CLAN* with children, grandchildren, great grandchildrenn, in-laws and what have you !!!
