As far as buying them goes, www.gog.com is one of thebest for older adventure games apart from ones you can find on justadventure's own store.
In the past decade hmm..
Have you played either the Syberia or The longest Journey series? Those are considered late classics (late 90's/early 2000's era).I loved Syberia more, but both are excellent adventure games that are more serious/adult themed.
As far as more recent games go, I really enjoyed The Whispered World, it's humorous and very cartoony similar to older games from the lucasarts era.You can try a demo of it here:

There's also Gray Matter, which is an adventure game from Jane Jenson (Who made the famous Gabriel Knight series). She also just recently had a successful kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1005365109/jane-jensens-pinkerton-road-2012-2013-csg?ref=users) and is working on a new adventure game called Moebius (which will be more like GK) and another project on the side (a possible new GK game). Gray Matter is a good game if you enjoyed Gabriel Knight you should give it a try.
Still Life is good for a Murder/mystery game if you enjoy those. It's a psuedo sequel to Post Mortem (but you don't need to have played it).
As far as "creepy" goes, if you haven't then Sanitarium is a MUST play, it's one of the creepiest adventure games of all time, very surreal and a great atmosphere. You can find it on gog.
Also you might be interested in the TellTale games, they are the biggest "new" adventure powerhouse out there, they have some good adventure series you might enjoy, many of them stylized.
I would recommend you look at their Sam and Max series, Tales of Monkey island (both new ones based around the clasasic series) as well as their BAck to the future and more recently The Walking Dead. If you enjoy The Walking dead tv show or novel I'd highly recommend it, the first episode was great. You can find their games here: http://www.telltalegames.com/ or on serices like Steam.
Also you might be happy to know that the Tex Murphy guys also had a recent successful kickstarter and are working on a new Tex Murphy game too: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/texmurphy/tex-murphy-project-fedora?ref=users
As well as the Two Guys from Andromeda (who made space quest games) :
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spaceventure/two-guys-spaceventure-by-the-creators-of-space-que?ref=users
Also another thing to point out that you may not have known is that the classic Moneky Island series had it's first two games redone in HD (with new voicework/graphics) that you might like to pick up if you enjoyed that series in the past, can find them on steam and other services.
