How many people here read the PC Gamer magazine? I get it every month, and they really should call it now....Action PC Gamer. How many adventure games do you see in it anymore? I wish someone or company would come out with an Adventure Games Magazine. Thank goodness for sites like this for us adventure gamers. :

True about the name.  I do subscribe mainly because I've been a subscriber for 7 years or so.  At least they gave Syberia a good score and a full page or more....
~rbeeler SVT  &&Name's STooGE$$$$ Valpurgius TNT; it's not PLURAL&&&&151.Generally speaking Sludge Doomsters are Angry, Gothic doomsters are sad, funeral doomsters are barely breathing, death doomsters are dirty, drunk and dribbling, Stoner Doomsters don't care, drone doomsters are out of it and traditional Doomsters are permanently pissed off, mainly with other doomsters

I subscribe to it as well - All in all it's a fairly decent magazine in my opinion.  If I recall correctly, Rob Smith (EIC - formally of PC Accelerator) has written several articles concerning the lack of Adventure titles in the main stream gaming community. So, I don't think the publication is at fault for predominately featuring Action games.

Personally, when I want to see what's new in Adventure, I always look here first.

What?

And to those that respond - but what about their "'Games that made us go hmmm - Dreamcatcher" comment (March 02).

My take was:  It was a joke.. Poor taste sure - but a joke.

What?

Are we talking about the UK or US version of PC Gamer. I don't think the UK one is too bad (although they perhaps treat Myst style games a little harsh).

***

On a (possibly) related issue...Just got the latest issue of PC Gamer UK today and it had its annual top 100 games feature in which...

Bladerunner is at 100th place
Little Big Adventure is at 79th place
The Longest Journey is at 54th place (grrr)
Sam 'N Max is at 47th place
Day of the Tentacle is at 44th place
Monkey Island 2 is at 27th place
and Grim Fandango is a 9th place

make of that what you will..... :-/

I used to love PC Gamer but they really are too anything Tom Clancy. Also, they lost me when they started focusing on Killcreek as one of the top talents in the industry. She may well be a gifted level designer but we didn't see it in Daikatana. I felt that Rob Smith was taking the magazine in a PC Accelerator direction. Which is fine if thats their core audience.

I found that Computer Games Magazine was much more rounded. It fits better with my middle age points of view!

I always come here for adventure news. I also track WW2 games and strategies and Gamecube stuff for my son who is 10 over at Gamespot.

Killcreek (a.k.a. Stevie Case) - Is an interesting  person to say the least , and quite the looker to boot - and I know, like everything else, it's open to interpretation.  (the beholder thing)

I don't see anything inherently wrong wth the magazines direction, but I do agree that its top 100 rankings are a bit skewed (by my own personal opinions).

What?

Deleted UserI dropped my subscription about a year ago.  I was in the bookstore yesterday and looked at a copy.  Still 99.9% other than adventure.   :'(  :'(  :'(  :'(  :'(

They had a writer, Michael Wolf I believe was the name, who had a monthly column about RPG/ADV but I didn't see him in the current issue. Does anyone know where he is?

Err folks I think thats because the adventure scene its just 0.1% of the market these days. I don't mean to be rough but its the truth.
I don't think PC Gamer should change their name either bacause they never specialized in any genre.

Got any statistics to prop this up? Not that I necessarily disbelieve you... but too many people tend to throw around nubmers that came from who knows where

I forgot my sig.

Well, maybe it's 1 %, but that still won't make the game makers want to start putting a large effort in new adventure games.

Plus, I agree with Rael, the name 'PC Gamer' does not mean it should be (mainly) about Adventures.

I still subscribe to PC Gamer and Computer Games Magazine.  In truth, there is not much content in either (sorry, Cindy Yans - I think YOU are a wonderful writer) that really holds my attention anymore.
It is easier to find current info on a specific game with the web.  My favorite is Rich LaPorte's Gone Gold site (www.gonegold.com) - they have the "Game Guide" that provides links to a ton of info on any specific title and is updated regularly.

I used to pick it up when I really needed the information about stuff, but now that I have more trustworthy connections over the net, I don't need such useless publications
