Quicksave is a recipe for abuse in games like this. It's so easy to fall into the pattern of saving during combat and restoring to halfway through the battle if you die. I found I didn't need to save very often in Grimrock, although I died quite a lot. That's an indication of good game design, I think.

Status : Offline | Done! Took me nearly 30 hours according to Steam stats, and I can believe it. I am a very methodical dungeon explorer, searching every nook and cranny. Found just about everything, notes, treasures, equipment and secrets, though the only one that really gave me some trouble was the Level 4 Iron Door. Also couldn't complete the Fighter's Challenge when I first stumbled in it, had to return much later. The maze with the Ice Lizards was the only non-optional combat area that I found challenging, and the damn Checkered Room the only puzzle that really frustrated me.
The final battle was interesting. I think it would be better if there weren't so many regular enemies running around the place, and you could just focus on figuring out how to beat the main adversary. In the end, I turned it into a battle of attrition, taking away a piece, falling down a pit to the last level, running to the crystal, and back again, until I beat it.

Spoiler AlertThe trick to deal with those enemies is not to try to fight them head on, but rather to let the boss crush them. When the boss moves over an enemy, it will instantly kill it, and the boss does not care what gets in its way
