A thread about quietness seems like a good place to make an entrance.
Some of you may remember me as "Susan" - I'm trying to see if I can get my username changed back to that.
Like many, I have fallen under the Facebook Curse, with it's semi-interesting social games, and it seems friends prefer communicating on Facebook via e-mail these days, so if one wants to be in-the-know with certain people, they need to be on Facebook. The problem is that I usually ending up knowing too much, or suffer from social media overload.
Don't get me wrong, I've recognized many forum-ites from various boards replying to friends' posts, so yes, it's cool that we're all "brought together" that way, but it's not the only way. Oh, and don't get me started on privacy issues!
I still prefer playing adventure games and discussing games via forums/message boards, though.
I'm still getting used to JA's new look, but it's nice to see familar faces around here. I've missed you all. :-)
Gosh, the power of thought. I was thinking about you the other day Susan, Goddess of Sur, and wondering how you were going, were you still slaving away in the backroom somewhere pushing out lists of soon to be released games or had you moved on. Now look - a few minutes thinking and eh voila! you return to answer all my questions.
Welcome back dear. Now don't be such a stranger. Put your wellies on, get wet and start kicking up some mud. This place is a tad too quiet nowadays. [I'd blow you a kissy smiley but someone missplaced him ]
speaking of newer rpgs vs adevnture, IMO Heavy Rain was a step forward for a more true "adventure" game. It still had the whole "search/hunt" style of gameplay that adventure players know, with a good story/characters. However it brought it to th enext gen while allowing you many many choices that had affects all throughout the storyline with multiple endings, etc.
Can't wait to see what Quantic Dream does next.
Heck just look at their recent tech demo thing they did, Kara, which is all running IN ENGINE (meaning it's not just a CGI show). They did a similar thing just before Heavy rain showing off their engine/emotion. Make sure to watch in HD/full screen.

Our most useful smileys may be gone, but we have such a lot of them now that you can easily discover a new one every day for the next 533 years!
Finding useful ones is almost like playing one of those "Hidden object" games.

Will PC gamers be seeing it at all?

That clip brought tears to my eyes.... that robot can really act! Now I want to actually see what happens next only watching the interview, that is it - there is no Kara story. drats.
As an aside, the future will be really cool when they make masculine versions of those robots.

You read my mind, Caroline.
And I, too, got all weepy-eyed over it. I'm always amazed when something virtual has such an actual emotional impact on me.

Here's a few names I recall, off the top of my head.
Monkeybone, DomBrewer, Scout, Grin, Stammer, Sennebec, Facfac, Pastor Disaster, Wimli, Elfsone, Friday 13th, Bicardijim, Gail, DimiDimiDimi, Ksandra, Michal, Solo22, Betje, Val (who has just reappeared), Petter Holmberg, Ogre and some who definitely won' be returning: Anne, Daryl, Michelle. There are quite a few other names that drift about on the edge of my consciousness that I can't remember but which I'd know if I saw them but these were regulars in the Off Topic forum in 2003.
Yep, that brings back memories.
Good memories.
....what about wolfboy
Still Intergalactic Janitor after all these years.
Hello bubbah. I think we lost New Wolfboy again with the site change. He seems to have a bad memory for passwords, LOL. Aya's been gone for a long time too, and ...gosh I can't remember his screen name... Ivinia found a new girlfriend that was more enticing than JA, it seems..
Oh, and King Ryan.. that very young reviewer, went off to college.
You know, Jenny100 and Inland haven't posted in ages either.

Bubbah! Glad to see you're still around too. So sweet about your daughter. I have a 16 yo now too. Eek!
Side note - when I finally recovered my old email and account here, I noticed there were PM notifications in my email. Those PMs all got lost during the forum transfer so I didn't get to read any of them.
