I planed to treat this years Eurovision song contest the way I always treat it, by ignoring it. But Russia's entry did catch my eyes.

(I won't actually vote)

That's very a very exciting performance, Fnord!

'Party for everyone!'  'Come on and dance!'   Folk song with a disco twist..... I hope they win.

It would be interesting to know their ages.

Such cute ladies. They make me long for my long dead grandmother.

(her grandfather was Russian)

I usually follow the Swedish 'trials', but seldom watch the big European finale. It's just too long. This year though I just might vote for Sweden since I'll be in Hastings, UK on the second Adventure Gamers get-together during the evening of the finale. (It's impossible to vote for your own country from whithin.)

This is the Swedish entry for the Eurovision. My favourite actually.

OMG --- Have I got long in the tooth !

fowwed the Eurovision *SONG* Festival since its inception I think around 55 years ago.

Once it used to be a pleasure and something very much to look forward to.(especially when Terry Wogan added his lackadaisical semi-cynical crunning commentary !).

But as the years have rolled by and more & more countries have joined in r=the standard has deteriorated and now I haven't even got the interest or patience to sit through it. I now just have the finals only blaring out from our TV set whilst I'm doing small jobs and clearing chores. It is a downright bore !

The "SONGS" are no longer songs as they once used to be - some even entering the Pantheon of classic pop tunes. No longer are there tunes you could sing in the shower or hum whilst driving.

Sadly, and in parallel with general "pop" - they consist 90% of booms and bangs gs abnd the singers no longer sing but shout & grunt & yell & groan.

Melodies are out ! monotonic thump of tom-toms are in !

"Am I right or am I right:

No Abba, Celine Dion, Dana International whose careers got launched a Eurovisions of yore ! -  so, considering the above - I wouldn't be one tiny bit surprised if that Russian  entrywins this year – After all, those babushka's are a REAL change, there is literally plenty of "Boom BOOM", rhythm it has aplenty and it even has a bit of a tune !!!

----------------------------------------------------

The boast of heraldry, the pomp of power,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike th' inevitable hour:-
The paths of glory lead but to the grave.

I like that singer, Jelena.  She has a great voice, graceful moves, and is very beautiful, too.  I suspect she'll go far.

San Marino might actually be a worthy contender as well. I still think I prefer the Russian entry, but this one deserves at least a mention.
