There doesn't seem to be much in the way of classic point-n-click AGs in the offing. Anyone with a good scoop?

Thanks GF... To hear there is a Barrow Hill 2 just a couple of months away is great news... Some of the others look interesting - perhaps JULIA.

Just a warning - it's been 'a couple of months away' since 2009. Don't be surprised if it is the same status a year from now.

Matt Clark who is the person behind Bracken Tor has indeed said that the game was nearly finished since 2012. And yes, it might well have been, but apparantly he's added more and more to the game. Why the publisher Iceberg Interactive hasn't said stop and told himthat if he wan't finished at certain time, they didn't wantto publish it, I don't know. However, Koch Media seems to have had enough:

As you can read,if the game is not finished (including the German translation) by June 15th 2012, Koch Media won't be publising the game. And to add to this, the German translatio has not begun yet. Hopefully, this'll speed things up - a lot. I do understand that Matt Clark is a small indie developer, but even he has to get the word -stop- ---- release what you've got. And then make a sequel to Bracken Tor...

Matt Clark said this- the word in italics.

"German gamers are getting impatient too. The German Amazon promised a release date of 24 February, but all of a sudden Bracken Tor was no longer available for preorder. Simply gone! Jack Vanian at Adventure-Treff sent an email to Matt and this was the reply.

Translations has not yet begun on the German version but the game is still going to be released this year.

This year! You mean, in 2012? Wow! I'm speechless. I want to thank both developer Matt Clark and publisher Iceberg for their transparent communication and the concern they have showed for their customers."

More generally, this is why bigger publishers always sets milestones for developers and pay them when they reach a milestone. And make a release date someday in the future. This means that the game developer hurries and does his best to meet the milestones. There's always that extra or this extra thing or polish that could be added or done to & in the game or that new engine that look exciting, but one also has to be realistc and cut one's darlings - even when it hurts. So the added area from the maybe finished game back in 2010 or early 2011 could maybe have gone i a sequel or something like that.

On the other hand I could have told Matt Clark that to make a decent game, it'll take between 2½-3 years to do so.
MDNA games which also is a small indie team of maybe 2-4 people (and then some) releases a game every second year or third year, I think...

However, as Barrow Hill is from 2006, Matt Clark should have finished Braken Tor back in 2009 or early 2010, and then set out to make a sequel to th Braken Tor game. However, let's not forget that the previous publisher (Lighthouse Interactive)went hm belly up, so this may also have been responsible for a part of the delay.

MDNA put out a Carol Reed game at the end of every year. Although I'll admit, they should be a little easier to make than a game like Barrow Hill.

Doesn't matter. If there is a Barrow Hill 2 in the next few months I will be happy - along with all the other point and clickers. Admittedly we are not a large crowd these days, but we will take a good game whern we can find  it!

It's funny. There are all these impressive RPG type games with immersive stories, detailed inventory and interactive characters and experiences... but a good AG in the old skool model like Scratches, Dark Fall,  Barrow Hill, or Outcry? not to much... I look forward to this one.

I tried Oblivion, but there was too much action and other characters for me. Too bad they couldn't just make an Oblivion sized world just to explore by myself, I'd even take that without the puzzles.

I'm so pessimistic these days about whether I'll ever get back into playing adventures. I'm surprised at Greyfuss' list, there's more than I thought. I'm even in a smaller minority, as I'm getting tierd of the same old horror/suspense/scary  that make up most of the 1st person titles.

Yes the list was surprising. I checked them all out and there may be a few I'd be interested in other than Bracken Tor, like JULIA perhaps.

Fortunately I'm not a compulsive gamer and have managed to stockpile a good number of AGs that I've yet to play -  if I need to I can weather an AG famine of condsiderable duration... But the paucity of new and inventive titles is not encouraging at all..

I decided to go back to some good oldies. I fired up my Win95 and am playing Puzz3D Orient Express. So far so good with the jigsaw part. I hope the FMV video adventure part works as well.
