Please Please Please Traveller, get a real book. we MUST boycott all the electronic readers if we love books and publishing, otherwise we will all just become outlets for digital trash.

It takes a real book publisher to know how to publish books of quality and the readers are ridiculous toys of the idle digitally handicapped modern generations. I will never ever use one and I urge any who love books and the quality filters and knowledge of real publishers to ban and forbid them not only to themsleves but especialy to young people.

Part of the problem is that the way our visual cortex and our brains work, when we read things digitally it is accesed by lower intelligence first, and the higher realms of thought never have a chance to be engaged. It is a factor of what Pavlov in 1912 discovered to be what he called the Orienting Reflex. This means reading a book on a reader will seem normal but it is really not going to reach your higher or left side of your brain.

Ban Readers, Save Books.

Hi Cris, please see my post in the OT section.  I must point you to the facts that:

1) e-books weren't available in 1912.

2) your brain processes books in e-ink technology (such as the Kindle and a nunch of other devices use)  exactly the same as it would a paper book - they look exactly the same.  Besides, reading is a cerbral activity and not primarily a visual activity - although the input is visual, it is abstact and 'encoded" as far as your brain is concerned.

Your "right side' of your cerebral cortex is the emotional, creative side, and the left side is the mathmatical calculating side.  Reading is a complex action that engages both of these "sides" of your brain, irrespective od the platform used to input it.  For instance, you can understand what I wrote here, can't you? ..and you're reading this in electronic form.

3)all the classics, and literally all of them, are availble in e-book form.  How are those trash?  ..and what exactly do you define as trash?

I wrote more in my post in OT in the kindle thread.  Short version: Don't worry, paper books aren't going anywhere. There are already millions of them, and especially copies of the good ones, right?

Another bug: If a post takes a thread to a 2nd page, that isn't indicated ie. there isn't a 2 that you can tap on to go to the 2nd page. However, it appears that once there is more than one post on the 2nd page, the 2 appears.

I also noticed yesterday that when I refreshed a page (in the screenshot thread) it didn't show a new post that had been made more than half an hour earlier.  Only when I went out of that thread and into the "recent posts" page, did the new post become visible to me.

I don't know if this is a bug, but it appears that after a while one cannot edit your posts anymore.  It was late and I was tired and in a hurry when I posted above SirDave there, and I saw a million typos in it now that I wanted to correct - only I can't, because the 'edit' button has disappeared on that post.

Well, maybe the first bug is fixed now, because I saw your post now after... er... navigating back from the "error message" page that one sometimes gets after posting.     LOL

Lucky it wasn't a captcha again, I got about 3 or 4 of those today...

E:\INETPUB\WWWROOT\JUSTADVENTURE\FORUMS\../core/components/_component_cemail.asp, line 161

...and yet again, after this post, I again got:  error '80040211'

E:\INETPUB\WWWROOT\JUSTADVENTURE\FORUMS\../core/components/_component_cemail.asp, line 161

I'm really sorry, guys. If it helps, I'm having the same kinds of problems.

The Forum used to remember me, but it forgot who I am about a week ago. Now, practically every time I move I have to log in again.

I get various error messages after I post something. More often than not, the post goes through anyway.

Posts and PMs are replicating themselves. The same post will sometimes appear two or three times. Yesterday, I received three identical PMs.

The Edit function is acting weird. For me, the first edit will go okay. But if I try to make a second edit of the same post, I'll get a message that I don't have permission to do so.

I don't receive email notification of new posts and PMs. This has been going on for months.

All forums reflected on the main forum page permanently carry gray envelope icons, meaning no new posts. This has also been the case for months.

I've reported all of these things and more. Unfortunately, the issues are then out of my hands.

Again, I'm sorry. I wish there was more I could do.

We feel your pain Karla.  I finally received a password reset and at least I can login now, so things are getting better.

Just as a matter of interest, I'm no longer able to search the forums. Even when I search using keywords that I know have been posted, I get -0- results.

Same here - obviously the owners have some work to do (I hear they're busy). I searched for "Just as a matter of interest" and your response wasn't found... Searching for the "Topic" did locate it - odd...

BTW - I PM'd digitize the other day about another member having the same issue I was having - can you nudge him?

Nudging is one of my specialities. Who is the other member?

I can finally get logged in again.

This is a test to see if I can post.

Edit: Well it gave me an error:

error '80040211'

E:\INETPUB\WWWROOT\JUSTADVENTURE\FORUMS\../core/components/_component_cemail.asp, line 161

But the post showed up when I went back to the thread manually.

Maybe this error has something to do with forwarding you back to the thread rather than with posting a message.

I don't seem to be getting the error when I edit an existing post, and it takes me back to my edited post without a problem.

ok weird, i accidentally mistyped the captcha and now i'm finally logged in again on my home pc

I hit enter just when i realised that i mistyped the last letter, but still i got logged in. So either the captcha works the opposite way or the mods fixed the log in again???

Who would have thought that you could just leave the captcha blank regardless of your count.

Is it just me or does everyone else have to login every time they visit the site?  The 'remember me' box is obviously not working.

When you enter the main forum, it looks like you're not logged in, but when you go to any sub-forum/forum category such as Adventure Discussions or Off-Topic, it shows that you are logged in. Try it.

Not so, I'm afraid SirDave.  It still gave me the runaround just now like it had earlier.  [sigh]    Someone tell me again why this new site is better than the old one?  Apart from all the smileys that is.   Seems like it's got a lot of teething problems that must surely be annoying the hell out of somebody....?

And how come every time I post a comment I go straight to an error page but the comment is posted successfully?

On one pc i have the same problem, on an other one i'm continuously logged in.

Same OS, same browser, same settings, etc. So i've got not clue what triggers the login problems.

I get that error half the time, on any pc

I seem to be getting the error more frequently in longer threads (and I am expecting to get one while posting this).

Also, have you tried to empty your cookies?

hmmm is seems as long as i keep my browser open, not the site itself, i stay logged in.

Removing all cookies is what might have triggered my login problems in the first place. I already removed them again, but i can't get this site to remember me

I am logged in all the time but i do get that same error page whenever i post, or most of the time. If i go back one, there is my post all correct. So the error is just an error of an error

  It is getting transcendental!
