Just as the title says, the first empire earth is free on gog (though this offer is only valid until the 14th, at which point it will return to its usual price).

Also, there is a big sale on gog, but as the site is currently overburdened, I can't say what games of interest will be on this sale.

All games are on sale, except Codemasters and Piranha Bytes (= Gothic 1-3). The Witcher 2 is 40% off ($23.99), everything else is 50% off ($2.99 and $4.99).

Gothic 2 & 3 are on sale, at least in my region, but Gothic 1 is not.

GoG is region-free (for now... CD Projekt had a nasty case with Namco-Bandai and they may be forced to re-introduce region lock, but that may be for The Witcher 2 only). I just checked and Gothic 2 and 3 indeed, they are down to $5. Strange

I thought the issue with Bandai was that they released a patch that removed the DRM from the boxed version without first informing Bandai about it (by the way, CD projekt sadly lost the court case), and not the GOG version, though I have noticed that the witcher 2 on GOG has its price set in € (but you get some GOG store-credits if you buy the witcher 2, to make up for the price difference).

I live on the Witcher forums so I read about them losing. It's sad, but the final ruling was that CDPR has the right to do whatever they want with DRM. Namco was butthurt because GoG hurt ~regional sales~ meaning, it was uncensored and DRM-free for everyone, even regions like Australia where sex scenes were removed. CDPR is paying Namco 50 000€ for being "undercut" by GoG and they will remain the publisher for Xbox version instead of THQ. That's about it. At least Namco cannot hold those two millions of profits any longer.

Sad indeed that CDPR lost, but it sounds as if they didhn't lose utterly and completely.  It's very frustrating, because I feel that they are on us, the gamer's side, whereas I feel that a lot of publishers are out to screw the last buck out of paying gamers that they can, without caring much about their market beyond the quick buck they can make out of us...

At least CDPR won some, lost some, and didn't lose more than you mentioned.  They have my loyalty, which sadly isn't worth that much, but if all gamers felt like I did, I suppose it does count for something.

I think a lot of people feel the same way, myself included

They have been really amazing thus far, and even when they fucked up they found a way to apologise/make it up to the gamers. I'm very happy they won the DRM case, it counts for a lot and they can drop Namco after TW2.

@Stiler

GoGcom tweeted this two hours ago: "We're continuing to have issues; if your purchase isn't going through, wait a few hours (or even a day!) & try again. Apologies!"

I went in to my account easily after being gifted Baldur's Gate, but redeeming it also caused probs, I guess they're overloaded.  I already bought Empire Earth Gold on a previous sale - boo, so missing a free game there.  I'm thinking about getting quite a few other games, but I want to test my own copies of the games in Win 7 first.  Will only buy if my own copies don't work.

I'm wondering if I'll ever get around playing  some of the later Ultima's or Lands of lore if I get those.  I don't have LOL at all.

In all honesty, Lands of lore 2 has not aged well. It was one of my first PC RPGs, and I want to like it, but during my last attempted playthrough I just could not ignore its flaws. The first lands of lore is very good though.

You should play through Ultima 7 at some point, it is an almost mandatory playthrough for anyone who enjoys CRPGs. Do it with a guide if you have to, just make sure that you experience it first hand.

Site looks like it's up, but when I try to checkout with paypal it merely refreshes the page instead of redirecting me. Forums just give 404 when I try to make a post, lol. Guess we'll have to wait a bit.

Trav, if you never played Lands of Lore you're in for a treat if you enjoy older first person style rpgs/adventures.  I enjoyed Lands of Lore 2 back in the day (complete with it's fmv actors and things that added a lot of nostaliga for me).

I was trying to buy some gifts for various forums I post on. Maybe pm me your email and you might find a certain surprise in it

Lands Of Lore Throne of Chaos with the full voiced version with Patrick Steward is cool, it is very old but it is fun.

And when i went to GOG and added Empire Earth Gold to my cart as it says to do for the free version, it still says a price.

so i guess it is not working or is not ready yet.

Wow, the Christmas spirit is abounding!    Btw, I've noticed on other occasions that you're a very generous person in general, Stiler.

Thanks for the advice, guys.  Yes, I was eyeing that Ultima pack with #7 in it, and will more closely investigate LOL now too, LOL.

I am not sure if the Empire Earth free gift is still valid, CrisGer, but when I went through the game's store page, it had a price too. Only when I went through the offer page did it show up as a free download.

It still shows up as free for me, and it is supposed to be free until tomorrow.
