This is not acceptable. There, I said it. I understand how you feel, it can be frustrating. I've been there, still am. Say adios to point and click, the mouse and keyboard commands are a new degree of freedom that opens new highly interactive worlds on your video screen. The bottom line is that all of these types of games do require that you will need to defend yourself to some extent or another.
My advice is simple. Don't give up too easily. Do a Google search for "Oblivion for Dummies." Honestly, one will find hints and tips to better understand the strategy and basic mechanics for different character classes and overall gameplay. For any situation there are always more then one option to resolve the situation. Traveller states that she can't think of an easier RPG... Don't take that personally. What you can or rather should do to make things less taxing? Obviously setting the difficulty bar to the intended position will help foremost. I admit this wasn't obvious to me at first. I got it now, slide it to the left = easier. Modify the environment. I can't agree more with CrisG's suggestion to tame the wildlife, there is no need for such siliness. Right?
At first I hardly had a clue as to the term mod, (WT...) nothing as to their importance, what they do, or for that matter the scary part of how to use them in my games. So I just asked...easy as pie. Lastly, I think the companion issue has already run its course in this thread but I never leave home without one.

You just have to be brave. Don't let the game own you: own the game! Wrestle it down to the ground until it's eating out of your hand.
That takes practice, but it's worth the mastery. I promise you it will give you a self-confidence boost once you do manage to succeed. Imagine trying to get to the top of a steep mountain - how exhilerated you feel when you reach the top.
..and when all else fails cheat cheat cheat just to learn the ropes and get along.

Status : Offline | whenever you are attacked:
press the tilde key (this &^%^$ forum deletes the symbol)which opens the console)
type: killall (I *think* this kills animals too)
press tilde to close the console
nothing will happen until the second time you press tilde, which is to the left of the number 1, use Shift.
whenever you want god mode
press tilde
type: tgm
press tilde
And don't panic. Master the left hand W A S D and mouse combo.
Or, take a break. But do go back. The vistas and towns are gorgeous in Oblivion and Skyrim--even Fallout 3, Battlefield3, etc.
Love the ads in the forum. Um, NOT.

Are you using any kind of ad blocker? I don't know what browser you're using, but the one I'm using for Firefox takes care of them nicely:

Thanks.
